Wow, Freshman Eric Williams Jr. poured in a career-high 34 points, hitting 9 of 15 from 3-point range, and grabbed 11 rebounds for his third straight double-double and ninth of the season as Duquesne held off George Mason 95-89 in double overtime on Saturday.

I just saw Nevada (18-3) beat Boise State (16-4) and noticed our former big man Pat Ackerman on the coaching staff for Nevada. It’s good to see another Titan in the coaching ranks, and Nevada is looking like a pretty good team.

Eric Williams should've been a titan. The coaching staff should've locked him up when he was verbally committed to that D2 school. Maybe the staff did try to get Williams and he wasnt interested, I don't know and at this point don't particularly care. This coaching staff must improve on their ability to identify talent. Someone on the staff stated that coach Alexander believed he had Skyler Nash signed, sealed and delivered and Vermont flipped him. On a side note Nash played in limited minutes the first few games of the season, he has since tore his ACL will not play the remainder of the year.

Scores from January 20, 2018.  Packed schedule today, with lots of great match ups.

Horizon League Action:

Detroit   86   Oakland  92.  Detroit trailed by 21 at the half, and despite a late and futile rally, you never got the feeling that the Titans were going to win.  Just an ugly performance.  Oakland is a team that has lost three conference games already, so they are beatable, so I take no comfort in the late rally.  OU is 5-3 in conference.  Detroit is 2-6.
Northern Kentucky  77  Green Bay 65.  NKU moves to 7-1 to at least stay in second place while GB falls to 3-7.
UIC   87   Cleveland State 80.  Nice road win for the Flames who only got a combined two field goals from Dixson and Ottey.
IUPUI   62  Youngstown State 85.  Penguins move to 4-4 as the Jags drop to 4-5.
Wright State  61   Milwaukee 66.  The Panthers get the home win and the Raiders fall into a tie with NKU.

Titan Opponents:
Florida State  91   Virginia Tech  82.   The 'Noles with a good road win as the Hokies fall to 13-6, 2-4.
Seattle 79   UT-RGV 76
East Tennessee State  66   Western Carolina 50
Toledo  72  Kent State 65
Murray State 76  Tennessee State 57
Oregon 94  UCLA 91
Fort Wayne 92  North Dakota State 88.  Fort Wayne is 14-9, 3-3.
St. Louis 66   UMass 47.  SLU is 10-10.

Top Twenty Five:
#1   Villanova  81   UConn 61.  Nova holds on to #1 with a win over their old Big East foe.
#3 Purdue 87   Iowa 64.  15 in a row for Purdue.
Oklahoma State 83   #4 Oklahoma 81.  Good game that went into overtime.
#5 Duke 81   Pittsburgh 54.  Pitt is 0-7 in the ACC after running Jamie Dixon out of town for just winning games in the NCAA tournament.
#6  West Virginia 86   Texas 51.  The Horns kept it close until late in the first half.
#12  Cincinnati  86   East Carolina 60.  Bearcats with their 36th home win in a row.
Houston 73   #7 Wichita State 59.  Second loss in a row for the Shockers.
Iowa State 70   #8 Texas Tech 52.  Tech having trouble scoring lately, especially on the road.
#10 Kansas 70   Baylor 67.  KU wins at home and hangs on to first place in the Big 12.
#11 Xavier 73  #19 Seton Hall 64.
#13  Gonzaga 75   Santa Clara 60.
#14  Arizona 73   Stanford 71.  Wildcats asserting themselves in the PAC 12.
#15 North Carolina 80   Georgia Tech 66.  Tar Heels win their fourth straight.
#17 Auburn 79  Georgia 65.  Yante Maten with 17 and 9 for Georgia.
#16   Arizona State     California
Florida 66   #18 Kentucky 64.  UF is 6-1 in the SEC.
#20 Clemson 77   Notre Dame 68.   Dick Vitale's favorite school is struggling this year, at 13-7, 3-4.
#21 Tennessee 70  South Carolina 63.
#22 Ohio State 67   Minnesota 49.  The Buckeyes are 8-0 in the Big Fourteen, UD Baller.  You spotted it early.
Kansas State 73   #24 TCU 68.

Other Games of Interest:
Butler 79   DePaul 67
Georgetown 93   St. John's 89 in double overtime.  Wild game.  Georgetown was up three with the ball with 1:30 left in regulation but let it slip away.  St. John's was up five in the first OT.  In the end, Patrick Ewing beat Chris Mullins again.
VCU 87  George Washington 73.   18 and 9 for Detroiter Justin Tillman.

Yes, Macon would be the gold standard.

As a rather large college basketball fan, I cannot let a Temple comment go by without giving a shout-out to both Aaron McKie and Pepe Sanchez. :)

Heckuva a dunk over the weekend by Illinois State on Valpo. Posterized is an appropriate term. Note Valpo is now 2-8 in conference, good for last place. Come back to the HL Valpo, we will be much nicer to you than the meanies of the Valley.

Scores from January 28, 2018. Another blowout loss for the Titans took a lot of the enjoyment out of a good slate of college basketball games.

HL:
Northern Kentucky 72 Detroit 44. The best thing you can say about this game is that it didn't end up being another 30 point blowout. Both teams struggled to get the offense going early. The Norse got rolling late in the first half, but the Titans never did. Detroit hit just 28% from the floor for the game, with only Corey Allen scoring in double figures. NKU didn't shoot the lights out, but today they didn't have to. Oh, yeah, and JJ Jr. left early in the game and didn't return. The Titans fall to 6-17, 2-8, while the Norse improve to 15-7, 8-2.

Wright State 64 Oakland 51. The Grizz had an opportunity to tighten up the race at the top of the HL, but came up short in Dayton. What's really surprising to me is that OU only scored 51 points. They actually shot worse from the three point line today than Detroit did.

Top Twenty Five and Other Games of Interest:
#1 Villanova 85 Marquette 82. Nova held off a strong challenge from Marquette.
#3 Purdue 74 Indiana 67. The Boilermakers are 10-0 in the Big Fourteen.
#6 Michigan State 74 Maryland 68. The Spartans overcame a 13 point half time deficit.
#17 Wichita State 90 Tulsa 71
#18 Clemson 72 Georgia Tech 70

Seton Hall 86 DePaul 70
Loyola Chicago 70 Northern Iowa 47. This score would have been unbelievable in the not to distant past.
Temple 85 UConn 57
USC 77 California 59
