Maybe Detroit and Oakland should field a combined team for the HL tournament. Just to have enough bodies out there.

The combined schools could be called UDMIDOUIRBIM (University of Detroit Mercy In Detroit Oakland University In Rochester Both in Michigan). I don't like it.

I can't be the only person who read the headline and immediately thought something criminal happened.

Funny that the first ad that Google inserted on the press release page was a photo of a foot and read "Fix bunions. No surgery."

Sorry for the player. Hope he recovers by summer so that he can have a chance at pro ball.

Unsympathetic for the team. They need more slam dunk coaching/mortgage service, I guess. See photo in story linked below.

I didn't see him go down, because it happened while Brock was committing his 5th foul with about 4 minutes left in the game. He had to be helped to the bench by Kampe and another guy and then, amazingly, came back in with about a minute left.

Hate to see any of the kids getting hurt, no matter if its your team or a rival.

OU can still win the HL tourney and make the NCAA (their goal at the start of the season) but it does seem that what was once a dream, generational team has not had the hoped for season due to injuries and seemingly under-performance across the board. The pipeline of their talent suggests they won't be quite this strong for a while, baring any grad transfers/transfers/high profile recruits coming on board. if they fall far enough we just may be able to 'pass' them!

If they keep bringing in criminals they will be ok.

Four starters are seniors, and those four are their leading scorers and their leading rebounders.

I don't know what their recruiting year looks like but that's a lot of gaps to fill, and any surprise transfers from a four-year school will sit for a season.

They're redshirting two bigs this year--Xavier Hill-Maas, whom they decided to redshirt because they didn't think he'd play much this year and they wanted to "save him," and Brad Brechting, who was injured just before the season started. They probably should've "unredshirted" Hill-Maas then, but didn't, and won't want to now. They add Kamari Newman, who is sitting out this year as a transfer from George Mason. He averaged 15 minutes a game for GMU last year as a freshman. Isaiah Brock should be back (though remember he almost quit this year), and James Beck, who's been nagged by injuries all year but could be pretty good player. And they'll get Neely back, who was leading the Horizon in assists. None of Hill-Maas, Brechting, Brock, or Neely score much, so they'll need some punch. I'd expect OU next year to start something like:
PG - Neely (led Horizon in assists)
SG - Newman
SF - Beck
PF - Brock
C - Brechting.

Bench will have Hill-Maas, Stan Scott, and Chris Palombizio. Traveon Maddox is a signed recruit who could help at guard next year. Braden Norris (LOI signed) is a pretty good point guard from central Ohio who can probably back up Neely adequately. The big question mark is 6-10 Nigerian Babtunde Sowunmi. If he turns out to be Solanke, no big deal. Tony Paul wrote a glowing profile of him when he signed, like he was the second coming of Bill Russell or something. But it's virtually impossible to find much real info on him, and he plays for a very tiny private school. So it's hard to know if Kampe really has anything there.

Anyway, they'll be competitive next year. But this was the year they had been waiting for. Meanwhile, we've just got to get better.

The Griz are losing three players who log deep into the 30+ minutes per game and a huge share of the points (the stats on the OU site don't cover all their games, but no one returning scores more than 5 ppg). That's hard to replace.

James Beck is a terrific player. This is the type of player we need to start bringing down to 6 & Livernois. I fully expect him to be the next Jalen Hayes for them... though Beck was a better HS player than Hayes.
