i hope bacari is able to get a good crossection of coaches.it would be nice to get ramsey or furgeson from the western part of the state and a top high school coach from the flint/Saginaw area.

I feel similarly. Hoping for Mike Thomas for the west side of the state, but really have no idea what Bacari will do. Thomas is the best option by far out there, in my opinion.

From the Flint/Saginaw area... I think that ship sailed with Dawkins as head coach. I think he's got better options closer to home. Maybe a coach from Ohio, which has been putting out loads of basketball talent over the past decade?

Any updates? It is safe to assume that JJ is going to be the underboss. Who is B.A. considering for the capo positions? ;)

Maybe Mickey Barrett will find his way back on UDM's staff. For the the past year or two he has been working at Oakland, serving as academic support coordinator for men's basketball. He was at the press conference announcing Barcari's appointment.

At the Titan Club gathering, Coach said he would like one of his assistants to be be well connected to the prep school and AAU circuits, which he feels is important for recruiting.

the mic is a great guy and was a great coach for many years. connects easily with people. a disaster as a women's coach. i think he's gone for good unfortunately.

A few possible names (these are complete guesses and I would be more likely to hit the bullseye of a dart board while blindfolded than to hit on more than one of these):

Terrance Porter, former U of D player, now at Farmington HS, and I think he is/was involved with the Family AAU program

CJ Lee, current Marist Assistant coach, spent time on the U of M staff as Director of Program Personnel and as an Administrative Specialist

Cornell Mann, Iowa St assistant coach, was originally Oak Park High School Head coach and was involved with the Michigan Mustangs AAU program

Kevin Mondro, EMU assistant, former U of D player, Director of BB ops, and assistant coach

Those may be guesses, but they make sense. You can make the case that each of them bring something useful to the staff.

With two relatively young guys lacking experience as head coaches, I'd like to see a veteran coach with some head coaching experience on the staff, even if it was a a low major or D2 program.

as much as I respect our former titans I don't really want to see all of our coaches as former players. kinda nepotistic if not incestuous... bureaucratically of course. we need to keep a national view and a broad perspective.

I agree we need new ideals and coaches with contacts outside of southeastern Michigan and Metro Detroit.

Are waiting for the new fiscal year to hire the new assistant coaches? I will be highly disappointed if the new assistants don't start recruiting/working until July.

I would think that the assistant coaches will be hired by 06/01 since the two high school basketball camps are in june and it will be hard to run the camp with 2 coaches .also, it would send a bad message to the players attending the camps.

No shocker, but JJ being on the staff is official. Be interesting to see how long before others are announced.

To milk the most ink out of the announcements, they should be strung out. That also allows each assistant his own headline instead of one Freep headline that says "TitanMac, R.B.J1 and Moose named to Titan coaching staff."
