Detroit News' Tony Paul tweets: "UDM hoops notes: Still not a peep about future of Jaleel Hogan. They're on lockdown on that topic."

It seems anything is possible at this point, Hogan staying or going. I'm not sure if its noteworthy they are being 'tight lipped' vs talking generally and not saying anything of note or specificity.

There's a scenario that he is indeed leaving, yet all parties are being quiet right now out of respect for Hogan as he gets in grades in order or whatever is happening behind the scenes. That would certainly be in his best interest, and the right thing for the staff to do.

Alternatively, you can read this all as indicative that Hogan will indeed be staying.

Me? I'd say flip a coin at this point and that your guess is as good as mine.

FWIW, saw a tweet from a UAB fan site tonight that said Hogan "won't be at UAB."

Later in the evening, Tony Paul of the Detroit News weighs in on Twitter: "There's a chance he's back at UDM. Can't get a peep out of them."

From al.com on 6/22:

UAB has 11 players currently on scholarship for the 2017-18 season and it looks like it will stay that way as Detroit transfer verbal commitment Jaleel Hogan is saddled with eligibility issues.

If he has eligibility issues to transfer, this would indicate he has eligibility issues to play come November?

I don't have inside information but it seems he has limited options because of academics. Nothing to be ashamed of. Being a student athlete is hard work, especially basketball that bridges both semesters. And Detroit Mercy academics can be demanding. Seems to me the odds of him playing for us this fall semester are 0%. I suspect the odds of him playing this spring are higher, but if you're Jaleel maybe the best decision is to take a year off, get your grades solid and try to graduate in spring of '19.

If he couldn't work things out with UAB he probably can't go anywhere else. I'm guessing he sticks with us or tries to get a contract in Europe.

I would much rather he sit out a year than leave.

Tony Paul of the Detroit News just tweeted "Detroi Mercy is optimistic Jaleel Hogan, despite rumblings of a transfer, will be on the roster for his senior season of men's basketball."

This is strange since BA at the luncheon indicated that he will not be on the roster, but maybe still enrolled as he works through his eligibility issues.

Maybe they are saying the same thing in a different way. Could be Tony was told that Hogan would be at U of D for his final year of basketball, but wasn't told that was expected to be the 2018-19 season.

Whether he plays or not could truly change the year that we have, any double teams on Hogan would then open up a player like Mcfolley, Allen, Jackson or Chatman and all are deadly from deep and can take it to the hoop.

Elated to see that Hogan will be on the team for 2017-18! Read this good news on the thread regarding the roster, but wanted to have closure and officially deep-six this previous bad news thread.

Maybe Jimmy Chitwood could edit the title to read "Hogan is ... Staying." I think he can do so because he started the thread.

Thanks Jimmy.

From the depths of an ugly loss in the tournament and the original title of this thread, we have now moved to the optimism that our senior post player has returned, that a lot of guys from last year's team got D-1 playing experience, that we have depth at all positions, that there have been a lot of changes in the HL including rosters, and that some of the new players will mesh with the returning ones to play much better basketball in the coming season.

Things have a way of balancing out for good people. And we have good people on the staff and the team.
