Hey Commish, you recently broke the news that we’re courting an Icelandic recruit by the name of Snorri Skorenson, a 7’3” pillar of volcanic basalt. Any word or update on this impending signing?

I'd say that he moves really well for a big man, and he is a big man, not a long string. I hope he joins us.

He’s 6-3. A story from a week ago when he announced he was leaving NU:

Assuming Jordan Ash has fully recovered from the injuries that limited his playing time the past two seasons; I believe he would be an excellent addition to our squad. He's athletic, has a solid work ethic, and was team captain at Northwestern in 2018-19.

Regarding immediate contribution from players that have received scholarship offers and their decision is pending; I put Jordan Ash and Levi Cook are at the top of the list.

Jordan Ash has committed to Wright State. (H/T to hsscout1 on the other board). The Raiders have a good recruiting class this off-season.

Anyone know if we were seriously recruiting him?

Hard to say. Just know that we offered him a visit. Don't know if he even visited.

Wright State is a good fit for Ash because he can play behind Cole Gentry at PG and he gives them experience. When Gentry had to sit down or had a bad game, the Raiders did not have a good alternative at PG. Of course, Ash's health is the big question mark, but for one year at Wright State without the need for him to play full-time, it's a good pick-up. On paper, Wright State appears to have a very goos recruiting class. Could be the best in the HL.

If we don’t have more recruits (besides Pink) confirmed within a couple weeks I think it’s reasonable to panic. I get that we are chasing JUCOs and grad transfers that come with eligibility/acceptance issues. And not all athletes have twitter and brag about making decisions the very moment they choose. But we have a lot of open scholarships and I don’t see much of any activity other than verbal commits saying we offer guys; but now a lot of those guys are choosing other schools.

FYI - since May 3rd, it has been a quiet period in men's BB recruiting. Coaches cannot leave campus to contact a recruit. Only contacts allowed are on campus. This recruiting restriction continues until the last day of the signing period.

From May 16-24, it is a dead period during which no in-person contact with a recruit, official visits, or unofficial visits can occur. No national letters of intent can be signed after May 15th.

But, a recruit could have visited with or talked with the staff beforehand and then make his decision during the 16-24 window? The recruit can talk to coaches on the phone and confirm the scholarship offer is still valid and make a public statement about his decision?

The recruiting period for 2019 started last year, the day he was hired. I get the transfer portal adds a layer, but the transfer dominoes are falling fast. This is more true of big men that we so desperately need.

I'm with Tacitus on this one. The longer they go unannounced, the more likely you are not getting who you wanted.

Yes and Yes. The recruit can still sign a letter of intent during the quiet period. And a recruit can still take an official visit to our campus and talk to coaches during the official visit. However, the coaches cannot visit a recruit off-campus and speak to him there. My comment was directed more at the youtube post above. For example, we know that we have one player who is supposed to visit here this week.

I bet that some of those transfer dominos have already fallen in our favor. As have some HS recruiting dominos. Social media and recruiting news aggregation sites like verbalcommits do not contain 100% of all recruiting information. For example, how many recruiting sites had Jordan Ash being offered by or even considering Wright State before Ash himself announced it last week?

I'm not worried at all because we have an experienced head coach with an experienced staff.
