We had a 6-8 Belgium kid ready to sign but he backed out due to the APR issue. We hope to get at least two more commitments soon and look for the entire recruiting class to be wrapped up and announced in about two weeks.

Two weeks? End of May? Hopefully it will be a class to remember. Get it? Memorial Day? Class to remember?

It says Maxwell was dismissed from Abilene Christian in February.

First off, it's only speculation about that player. There is no confirmation. He may not be coming here.

Secondly, he was dismissed from the team, but not from the school. He would be a grad transfer. That means that he obtained his undergraduate degree from the school even though he was not on the team. Abilene Christian is a much stricter than usual religious school. The reasons for his dismissal there may not be disciplinary reasons at most other D-1 schools.

Coach Davis is known for giving good players, who are good people, a second chance when circumstances merit. Maxwell is a good shooter and rebounder. I defer to Davis' evaluation of the any specific player.

The statement from ACU said Maxwell was dismissed from the team because he "violated policies and had behavior inconsistent with the values of ACU."

It was probably something similar to when Jim McMahon was almost expelled from BYU for drinking caffeinated beverages.

I think it was something a lot stronger than coffee that got McMahon invited to leave BYU -- interestingly enough, after his final football game.

Jeff Goodman of the Stadium is now listing B.J. Maxwell as having committed to us. It's on this list.

Are both of these guys eligible to play this year?

From ESPN, sounds like the Titans might be seeking a waiver for Miller to be eligible this season, so status still TBD:

“Louisiana transfer Justin Miller reportedly confirmed his commitment to the Detroit Titans during a radio interview. Miller's status for 2019-20 (eligible to play or red shirt) isn't clear at this time. If he's available this coming season, he should be able to step in and help right away. Miller had some big games for the Ragin' Cajuns last year, including 22 points and 7 rebounds against Kansas.”

B.J. Maxwell is a grad transfer and would be automatically eligible.

Don’t think the following has been reported on this comprehensive 2019 recruiting thread, although there is a separate thread on the message board with the news. Dwayne Rose, a guard who played juco last year at Southwestern Illinois, announced his commitment to Detroit Mercy on Saturday. He was a three-star recruit in high school, played his freshman year at Toledo. Averaged 7.6 ppg last season. He is the nephew of NBA player Derrick Rose.

If this is all correct, we have four identified new kids on the block:

Jamail Pink, freshman, point guard
BJ Maxwell, junior (maybe has to red-shirt), guard
Justin Miller, grad, power forward
Dwayne Rose, red-shirt sophomore, guard

Returning players:

Juan Parrilla, walk on-senior, guard
Darrell Riley, walk-on senior, guard
Lamar Hamrick, senior, guard-forward
Harrison Curry, senior, forward
Jordan Gorman, walk-on junior, guard
Antoine Davis, walk-on sophomore, guard
Marquis Moore, sophomore, guard
Boe Nguidjol, sophomore, center-forward
Chris Brandon, sophomore, forward-guard
Willy Isiani, sophomore, guard-forward

That’s ten scholarships.

According to Rogo, we also have a 7-1 grad transfer and a 6-11 freshman.

I wonder if Vijay Blackmon who visited caps a few weeks ago is still on our radar?

Maxwell is a grad transfer with immediate eligibility, Miller will be a senior with eligibility status TBD.

On returning players, Moore is listed on roster as a guard-forward.

Oops. Got those two backwards, I guess. I'll correct. Thanks, Rogo.

Anything on the "7-1 grad transfer and a 6-11 freshman"?

Don’t think Rose is a red-shirt sophomore. Played a year at Toledo, a year in JC. That would make him a junior, immediately eligible.
