It will be interesting to see how we use Hogan and Prince since it seems that they are similar players. We also should be able to run, with multiple players in each position, we should not have an issue with exhaustion. Maybe we will see more of that chaos defense now.

Mik, I thought Prince had more of an mid-outside game than Hogan does.

Prince did not attempt a 3 pt. shot last year. Offensively he and Hogan do have similar games. Prince is a better defensive rebounder and a lot better at the line.

I bet Prince couldn't single handily beat Oakland on the glaretop.

My point with Prince is that we have 2 guys at the 4 that have a similar game, should help us if Hogan or Prince get in foul trouble, like we did last year, as soon as Hogan was in foul trouble things went down hill for us. We have multiple players at each position, may present a problem how of you integrate all of those pieces and put them together into a well oiled machine! I do think that if Prince plays like he did last year we have potentially multiple guys that have to be double teamed in order to stop them. If Chatman as good as advertised, Allen continues playing this well, Hogan, Prince, McFolley and now even JJjr, this allows for line ups with multiple players that require a lot of attention on defense, which will create opportunities for other guys on the court.

We will do well to get above .500, which would mean a minimum of 17 wins, more than doubling last season's total.

Which was the point of my post. I expect significantly better results. A 20-win season is at the most positive end of the range. That's why I am not ready to call it now. The "yet" simply means that if things broke very favorably, it is not impossible to attain 20 wins including the post season tournament(s). There are too many unknowns now to make that call.

Carter was simply an example of the depth, a walk-on who played 104 minutes in 20 games last year. That's a different level of experience than a guy thrown in during the last minute of 20 blow-outs.

Coming out of high school, Prince had an outside/mid-range game. Also, he has some quickness. Last season at Long Beach, he was asked to play inside due to an injury to another player. It remains to be seen if his skills outside are still there or have declined due to his role last year. The sommelier of Titan basketball claimed to me that he will pair well with Kam Chatman. ;) We'll see.

Commish - after taking a direct hit from the eye, I got out of my hurricane bunker and got my power back yesterday to learn that we finally have a new roster. It's just nice to talk about something other than the weather.

The roster has Musial Gjysma wearing #45, I could've sworn that we retired this # (Spencer Haywood).

I'm sure they will figure out a new number for this new fellow Musial. R.B. is correct that 45 was retired. For that matter, in Spence's days, players generally wore an even number at home (he wore 44) and one number higher on the road. But 44 is also retired (Terry Tyler). The highest number that I remember being used by any team was 55, usually reserved for a bulky center. Strange numbers such as 0,00, 72, 83, et al did not come into use in basketball until, I would say, the past 20 years or so.

In perusing the roster, I note quite a contrast between BA and his predecessor in the size of it. Ray generally kept a core group of about 10 or 11, but some years as low as 9, while BA has it at 17 now, with no one injured or sitting out due to transfer, not that I know of anyway.

Wonder if we redshirt anyone due to the number of bodies we have available now.

I like the idea of redshirting Eichler. We have plenty of depth and a fair amount of experience at the Center and Power Forward positions; Tariiq Jones, Ballantyne, Hogan, Prince, Blackshear, and Isaiah Jones.

With the option to transfer to another school in the fifth year with no waiting period (when undergrad degree is completed), I'm not that big a fan of redshirting developmental players anymore. The staff might end up redshirting somebody, but they won't make any decisions until the preseason evaluation period is over and will also need to take into account any injuries that may crop up.

Isaiah Jones is listed on the roster as a senior, but I believe his injury last year may possibly make him eligible for another season. We will have a minimum of three scholarships opening up (Black, Hogan, Prince), four if Jones doesn't come back for an extension year.

They could have given him Stan Musial's #6. Instead, he got Ed Carter's #55.

The best way for Malik Eichler to develop is to play now. I think that he will graduate by the end of his 4th year here.
