Sunday, Oct. 22 (All exhibition games):

Horizon
Marquette 78, Milwaukee 63. In one of the special Hurricane Relief exhibitions, Milwaukee held Marquette scoreless for the first five minutes and led for much of the first half, but couldn't capitalize and fell to the Golden Eagles at Marquette. Brett Prahl led the Panthers with 15 points. Brock Stull added 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists. Sophomore Sam Hauser had 27 points and 10 rebounds for Marquette. Marquette's three Michigan recruits struggled: Greg Elliott shot just 1 for 7 to finish with 3 points, Ike Eke was scoreless, and Jamal Cain fouled out in just 14 minutes of play. Milwaukee is 0-40 against Marquette all-time.

Other
Kansas 93, Missouri 87.
Kansas State 78, Missouri State 62.
The Jayhawkers knocked the Border Ruffians around on Sunday.

Houston 81, Baylor 78.

Exhibition Games for Tuesday, Oct. 24:

Horizon
Youngstown State 106, Thiel 74.Youngstown used new coach Jarod Calhoun's debut to beat up on tiny Thiel in one of those special "Hurricane relief" exhibitions. Even though they were missing one of their top recruits, who had wisdom teeth removed, YSU still used 18 players--they've got more walk-ons than we do. Twelve guys played at least 10 minutes and none played 20. Their star freshman, Naz Bohannon, looked very good with 13 points and 11 rebounds in 16 minutes. Look, it's an exhibition against Thiel. Still, it's obvious this is no longer Jerry Slocum's team.

Wednesday, October 25, Exhibitions:

Horizon
UIC 97, St. Francis (Ill.) 62. UIC was in mid-season form, crushing the NAIA Fighting Saints. Sophomore Marcus Ottey had 20 points in 22 minutes, senior Tai Odiase added 21 points, and sophomore guard Tarkus Ferguson had 13 assists and 0 turnovers. The Flames shot 61% from the field, including 10-10 by Odiase.

Non-Conference Opponents:
Findlay 89, Toledo 86. Interesting. Findlay is a good D-II team--ranked 25th in the country at the end of last season--and it's just an exhibition, but the score is still what it is. Toledo visits Calihan on December 6.

Other Games:
Michigan State 80, Ferris State 72. Ferris darn near won this exhibition. Ferris led by 3 at the break and was still tied with under 6:30 to play.

In an exhibition at the O'Rena, Oakland beat Central Michigan, 110-86. Kendrick Nunn had 40 points on 13-of-16 shooting, eight 3's. Yikes!

For Sunday, Oct. 29:

Horizon:
Oakland 110, Central Michigan 86. As Rogobob reported, OU looked every bit the HL favorite, and Kendrick Nunn every bit a player who can dominate at the mid-major level. Note that in addition to his 40 points, Nunn had 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Martez Walker had 24 and Jalen Hayes 19 for OU. Point guard Brailen Neely had 10 assists and never took a shot from the floor in 22 minutes--OU has lots of guys who can score big. We might note that Central was picked to finish last in the MAC West in the Conference's pre-season media poll.

DePaul 74, Cleveland State 68. This was a closed scrimmage, but ESPN's Jeff Goodman tweeted out the result. Bobby Word had 18 for Cleveland State. Look for Word to lead CSU in scoring in a lot of losing efforts this year.

Titan Non-Conference Opponents:
Western Michigan 106, Lourdes 51. None of WMU's starters played more than 20 minutes in this exhibiton. Jason Whitens played 12 minutes but did not score. Bronco junior Josh Davis, who averaged just 2 points per game last year, scored 29 in 16 minutes.

North Texas 84, Houston Baptist 81. We play Baptist (maybe) down in Nashville next month.

UM-Dearborn 121, Akron-Wayne 75. UMD will be our regular season home opener. This was the NAIA team's third regular season game already. They're 2-1.

East Tennessee State, Austin Peay. No score in this "secret scrimmage," but Goodman says that ETSU "had its way."

Other Games:
Michigan State 80, Georgia 68. A Hurricane Relief Exhibition. 21 points and 10 rebounds for Miles Bridges. Senior Yante Maten, a Michigan kid Ray McCallum recruited hard for the Titans years ago, had 33 for Georgia.

From Jon Rothstein, a secret scrimmage between YSU and Niagara:

Niagara puts up 120 against Youngstown State in a team scrimmage and wins by 26. Purple Eagles had seven guys in dbl-figures. Top-5 in MAAC?

Not scoring in 12 min by Whitens against an NAIA is not encouraging start to his career, maybe he will do better against D-1, we shall see!

Yes we will. I'm willing to bet that going 0-2 in his first college scrimmage won't define his career. ;)

Games for Monday, October 30:

Horizon
Green Bay 100, Ripon 70. The Phoenix had their way with D-III Ripon, scoring 50 points in each half. In fact, the Phoenix were a model for learning to count by fives tonight. P.J. Pipes, Kameron Hankerson, and Khalil Small each scored 15 points. Three other players each scored 10, and the rest of the team scored 25. Basically, the Phoenix saw what they wanted to see: the freshman Pipes and the sophomore Hankerson (8 assists, 0 turnovers) handled the point well, and their other newcomers performed well, too. I watched a bit of this game and Ripon was totally out of its league, totally outmanned physically, so I don't know that we learned a lot about Green Bay. But nothing we learned was bad, so that's good for them.

I believe Sue Snyder, wife of Governor Rick Snyder will be at Oakland this week during her "campus sexual assault summit". Maybe Nunn and Walker should be the headliners?

The administration and students at OU truly care about eliminating domestic violence, unless you can hoop...

I would hope that it does not, but this was an exhibition game and not a scrimmage I believe. I did not say anything about his career, you cannot tell me that his performance was earth shattering either though. I hope he does better since from everything I read on here about him he seems like a good young person and I wish him well, but that was not an impressive start, not all too different from our new recruits last year, some of which improved and some did not. It will be interesting how he does, with so much support for him on this board.

If he starts his actual career 0-26 from three, we can start comparing him to a Titan recruit from last year... at least from a shooting perspective.

For Wednesday, November 1:

Non-Conference Opponents:
Spring Arbor 90, UM-Dearborn 79 (2OT). The Little Wolverines fall to 3-2. Disappointing for UM-D, as they had beaten the NAIA's #21 ranked team, Rochester College, on Monday of this week. Spring Arbor, which plays in the Crossroads League, is off to a 4-0 start.

UCLA 111, Cal-State Los Angeles 80. 10 UCLA players played at least 15 minutes in this exhibition game. Cal-State LA is a D-II team.

It will be a shoot out against UCLA, one of those games where Titans can score 100 and still lose.

Thursday, Nov. 2:
Horizon
Oakland 91, Rochester 73. OU went funky for the exhibition, with Chris Palombizio and freshman James Beck starting ahead of Jalen Hayes and Brailen Neely. The Grizz jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead, but showed some weakness as Rochester closed the gap to just 2 shortly before the half. Oakland then pulled away in the second half. Kendrick Nunn wasn't as good as in Sunday's Exhibition against Central Michigan, but still led all scorers with 20 points in 27 minutes. Rochester isn't a bad team, as these things go, being ranked #21 in NAIA pre-season poll.

Cleveland State 78, Cedarville 60. Dennis Felton kicked off his CSU head coaching stint with a solid but unspectacular exhibition win over D-II Cedarville. Detroiter Kenny Carpenter led with 16 points.

Milwaukee 92, Wisconsin Lutheran 64. Milwaukee first year head coach Pat Baldwin gets his first win in this exhibition against a local D-III team.

Non-Conference Opponents:
Murray State 98, McKendree 82. The Racers had no problem with D-II McKendree in this exhibition.

Belmont 91, Trevecca Nazarene 64. Belmont led by 37 early in the second half, before taking its foot off the gas. Trevecca is a D-II school in Nashville.

Coming Up
Nov. 3: Horizon League v. Valparaiso, Change of Venue Motion to be argued, Evansville, IN.

Friday, November 3:

Horizon
Wright State 73, Wayne State (Nebraska) 58. Wright State got by the other Wayne State, but it wasn't easy. The Raiders led by just 1 at halftime, then trailed for much of the second half before pulling it out with a 26-10 finish. They were without Grant Benzinger, their sharpshooting guard, but all five starters played at least 27 minutes. Word also leaked out today (word which may or may not be reliable) that Wright State won it's secret scrimmage last weekend against Ohio U., which, if true, is perhaps more promising.

IUPUI 65, Carroll 56. Carroll University is a D-III school in Waukesha, Wisconsin. It claims to have hosted the first organized soccer game ever played in the U.S., in 1866, and the first intercollegiate football game in which a forward pass was thrown, in 1906. The pass was thrown by the opposing team, St. Louis University, whose basketball team is on our schedule this year.

Non-Conference Opponents:
Michigan 82, Grand Valley State 50. Michigan led 45-21 at the half.

Other Games of Interest:
Michigan State 75, Hillsdale 44.

Eastern Illinois 80, Illinois 67. Illinois's "disaster relief exhibition" turned into a disaster.
