Dayton 82, St. Bonaventure 82.
Notre Dame 88, NC State 58

The Bonnies and Dayton with the rare tie.
Actually Dayton won 82-72. Just kidding you over the typo. You (and the Commish) do a stellar job with the score recaps and game previews

LOL. Thanks for the correction. I looked over that before I posted it, but I must have missed it.

The Commissioner set a good format for the scoreboard: HL teams, Titan opponents, top twenty five, and other games of interest. For games of interest, I usually focus on the state schools, our Catholic brethren, potential and former HL members, games where Detroit area kids stood out, and other games that I think might catch the interest of the board. I hope people have gotten some enjoyment and information out of it.

I believe at the time the two longest home court winning streaks in the country belonged to UDM and MSU... and they were both blowing away the competition. Would have had to have been in '99, I think. If memory serves we were 20-12 during the 99-00 season, so we must have lost a few at home that year.

Just looked it up. Geez, we had a run.

We lost at Calihan (according to records) to Michigan on November 30, 1997. Our next home loss was to UWGB on February 11, 2002. That's an incredible run. Good call on it being around 2001.

P.S. I don't pay too close attention to detail, but I think that is right. I'm sure someone else will probably double check.

That sounds right to me. I remember the loss, although I thought it was a loss to Milwaukee. I couldn't get to the game because it snowed that day, and I was home shoveling the driveway and listening on WDFN. I was flabbergasted that they lost on our home court. Those were the days

We also got a ton of press during that home run since it was so long, and was among the nation's longest. As I recall, MSU lost and we claimed the top spot and then lost at home not too long after that, figures :(

I know some of you are older so you point to the 70's as the glory days. I was witness to our late 90's/early 00's run and those were the glory days I experienced. Calihan was packed and energetic. It was a legit home court advantage. Rashad often posts old highlights on his twitter account, its awesome (and at the same time sad) to see what Calihan was like back then. Some of those Butler games were SO much fun. I've been to UNC-Duke at the Dean Dome (twice) and honestly I put a few of those Bulldog clashes up there with the most tense and most fun hoops games I've seen in person. Cue Bruce Springsteen "Glory Days"...

Scores from January 5, 2018. A bitter cold night in the City saw the Titans ice cold from three.

Two HL Games tonight:
Detroit 80 Wright State 73 The Titans fell behind by 16 at the half and a furious comeback in the second half couldn't quite get us over the hump. We cut the lead to one with 3.59 to go, but were outscored 10-4 the rest of the way.

Northern Kentucky 87 Oakland 83. Oakland had a six point half time lead but couldn't maintain it at home. The Norse hit big free throws down the stretch to put it away. Oakland shot well but couldn't overcome NKU's big rebound advantage. Carson Williams had 21 and 9 for NKU. Brock had another six block game for the Grizz.

Titan Opponents:
Toledo 67, Akron 65. The Glass City defeats the Rubber City. Toledo is 9-6.

Other Games of Interest:
Rutgers 64, Wisconsin 60. The Badgers are bad this year.
Monmouth 77, Manhattan 66
Iona 73, St. Peter's 69
Northeastern 72, Elon 60
Penn State 78, Northwestern 63. Northwestern was really overrated to start the year.
Navy 70 American 64. Anchors aweigh!
Bucknell 83 Army 66. The Navy gets the gravy but the Army gets the beans.
Oregon State 76 Oregon 64. Beavers vs Ducks.

Scores from January 6, 2018.  Sill bitter cold in the Motor City and most of America, but my heart was warmed by some of my favorite programs pulling off wins.

Two HL Games tonight:
Milwaukee 67  Cleveland State 63.  Jeremiah Bell hit five three pointers for the Panthers.  Detroiter Kenny Carpenter scored 17 for the Vikings.

Titan Opponents:
Grand Canyon 73    Seattle 57
Michigan 79   Illinois 69.  Michigan, 14-3, trailed by 3 at the half.   Former UDJ Cub Greg Eboigbodin had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks for Illinois.
Virginia Tech 81  Pittsburgh 67.  The Hokies move to 12-4.
Fort Wayne 82  Denver 63
Western Michigan 67  Miami - OH 62
ETSU 85  Chattanooga 66
UCLA 107  California 84
Nicholls 72  Houston Baptist 71
St. Louis 69  Richmond 62
Murray State 82   Tenn-Martin 68

#3 Villanova 100  Marquette 90.   Rollie Massimino vs Al McGuire.
Providence 81  #5 Xavier 72.  Good win for the Friars, who have been up and down.
#6 West Virginia 89  #7 Oklahoma 76.  WVU at home, deeper and better right now than OU.
#8 Virginia 61  #12 North Carolina 49.  UVA will throw sand in the gears of your offense.
#10 Kansas 88  #16 TCU 84.  Kansas with a bounceback win after getting spanked at home by Texas Tech.
LSU 69   #11 Texas A&M 68
#13  Purdue 74  Nebraska 62
Colorado 80   #14 Arizona 77.  Apparently I was wrong.  Arizona has not gotten their Mojo back.
#23 Tennessee 76   #17 Kentucky 65.  UK's youth shows up.
# 18 Texas Tech 74   Kansas State 58.  Classy move by TTU coach Chris Beard after the Tech's win over Kansas a few days ago.  In the post game press conference, he praised former Tech coach Tubby Smith for recruiting and developing the Tech seniors.
#19 Gonzaga 85   Loyola Marymount 66
#21 Seton Hall 90   Butler 87.  Seton Hall came back late to get the big road win.
Auburn 88   #22 Arkansas 77

Notre Dame 51   Syracuse 49.  Dick Vitale's favorite school gets the close win.
Indiana 75   Minnesota 71.   There are only about four good teams in the Big 14 this season.
Kent State 85   Central Michigan 69

We are not the only metro area school whose fans are unhappy so far this season.

Good point. I just wish we were able to get the incremental 4,000+ fans they got this weekend compared to our fans. So from that perspective, their fans are at least willing to go to their games.

Maybe we can hire Matta?

Caught the tail end of the Oakland-Wright game. It was good, mid major basketball. The glaretop was as glare'y as ever but it was a fun game to watch and they had a engaged orena (not loud and crazy, but the fans were into it). As they panned the crowd, it looked alot like the crowds we used to have filling our lower bowl in 90's and early 00's.

Our favorite rehabilitated Kendrick Nunn hit some huge, clutch 3's to help force overtime. He's gonna be a handful for the Titans, and will be interesting how we scheme to stop him. OU's RPI is now 145 (per CBSSPorts) and they are 9-8 on the season and 1-3 in league play. True its still just early January, they still have alot to play for and a legit shot at a NCAA bid. They seem to be floundering a bit though as of now. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Scores from January 7, 2018.

Two HL Games:
Northern Kentucky 56   Detroit 54:   Titans beat the spread but fall for the 11th time in a row, spoiling Tommy Titan's birthday party.

Wright State 86   Oakland 81.  The Grizzlies were down eight at the half, battled back to put it into overtime, but lost at home.  Wright State's Loudon Love dominated with 25 points and 17 rebounds.  OU shot 36% from the floor.

Top Twenty Five and Other Games of Interest:

Ohio State 80   #1 Michigan State 64.  Al McGuire used to say that the home court advantage in college basketball was so big there were no upsets on the road.  I tend to agree, so the Buckeyes win wasn't that shocking to me.  They've won eight in a row.
#4 Arizona State 80  Utah 77. Excellent game, went right down to the end.
#9 Wichita State 95   South Florida 57
#15  Miami 80    #24  Florida State 77. Miami takes round one of the ACC battle for Florida.
#19 Cincinnati 76   SMU 56.  The Bearcats defense is incredible again.
UCF 60  Temple 39.
Loyola Chicago 56   Northern Iowa 50.  The Ramblers are 12-4, 2-2.
Maryland 91   Iowa 73.  Iowa is 0-5 in the Big Fourteen.
Stanford 77   USC 76.   Freshman Dajeon Davis won it with a 55 foot swish at the buzzer.

Scores from January 8, 2018.

Light schedule in NCAA basketball tonight. Some games that caught my eye:

Army 58  American 54.   As a veteran, I was conflicted about who to root for in this one.
Boston U  92   Lehigh 81
Holy Cross 64   Loyola - MD 57
Jackson State 65   Southern 61   Lindsey Hunter's school over Avery Johnson's school.

Scores from January 9, 2018.

Full night of college basketball, with a lot of interesting outcomes.   No HL action, however.

Titan Opponents:
#9 Purdue 70  Michigan 69.   UM fans are upset about the officiating at the end, but both the official review of an out of bounds play and a late foul call on Michigan looked like the right calls to me.  Michigan is 14-4, 2-3.
Rhode Island 72   St. Louis 65.  SLU falls under .500.
Toledo 84   Western Michigan 61.   The Rockets home win leaves both teams 10-6, 2-1.

Top 25 and Other Games of Interest:
#2 West Virginia 57   Baylor 54.  Baylor gave it a good shot at WVU.
#3 Virginia 68  Syracuse 61
#9 Oklahoma 75    #8 Texas Tech 65.  The Sooners have played four top ten teams this year.  They have beaten three of them and have a win over at the time 25th ranked USC.  Oklahoma was 11-20 last season.
#12 Kansas 83  Iowa State 78.
Marquette 84   #13 Seton Hall 64.  A big time butt kicking of a good team.  Great win for Marquette.
#20 North Carolina 96   Boston College 66.  I knew somebody was going to pay for that recent Tar Heel loss.
#21  Kentucky 74   Texas A&M 73.  T A&M started the season blowing out West Virginia but they are now 0-4 in the SEC.
#22 Auburn 85   Ole Miss 70.  Auburn was down ten at the half.
#24 Tennessee 92    Vanderbilt 84.  The Commodores (not Lionel Richie's Commodores) are 6-10, 1-3 under our old friend
#25 Creighton 85   Butler 74.
Georgetown 69   St. John's 66.  At Madison Square Garden, just like the glory years.
Memphis  96 Tulane 89.  Tigers are 11-6, 2-2.
Eastern Michigan 79  Central Michigan 74.  I was in attendance at the Convocation Center for this good home win for EMU against a good Central team.  Kid from my high school got 15 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles, who are now 10-6.  The Chips fall to 12-4.
VCU 78  Duquesne 67.  New Haven's Eric Williams Jr. had 15 and 5 for the Duquesne.  Justin Tillman, part of that good Pershing team in high school a few years ago, had 10 points and 17 rebounds for the Rams.  He's averaging 17 and 10 on the season.
Dayton 87   Richmond 81.  Detroiter Darrell Davis, a high school teammate of Tillman's  had 17, 4, and 4 for the Flyers and is averaging 17 points per game in his senior year.
Nebraska 63   Wisconsin 59.
Indiana 74  Penn State 70.

Looked like the right calls to me as well. Both teams played well, but Purdue may have impressed me even more than UofM did in that game. They played under control and never looked panicked a bit... even when Michigan started throwing in everything they looked at.

Sh*t wouldn't have gone down so smooth for UNC if BC would have just beaten us out in the Ballantyne recruitment. :D

Scores from January 10, 2018.

Lots of college basketball action, including a win for our Titans.

HL Action:

Detroit 85 Cleveland State 84. The Titans snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Corey Allen scored at the buzzer.

Oakland 95 Youngstown State 82. The Grizz scored 54 points in the first half and maintained control in the second half.

IUPUI 72 Milwaukee 71. The Jags might not be the soft touch they appeared to be earlier in the year.

UIC 84 Green Bay 73. The Flames even up their league record at 2-2 behind Dixson's best game of the season.

Titan Opponents:
Virginia Tech 83 Wake Forrest 75. The Hokies are 13-4.
Abilene Christin 82 Houston Baptist 74. HBU is 4-13.

Top 25 and Other Games of Interest:
#1 Villanova 89 #10 Xavier 65. Nova looking to hold on to that number spot.
#4 Michigan State 76 Rutgers 72 (OT). The Spartans beat back a touch challenge from the Scarlet Knights in Breslin. Cassius Winston had some big plays in overtime.
#7 Duke 87 Pittsburgh 52. Pittsburgh maybe regretting firing Jamie Dixon.
Texas 99 #16 TCU 98. Despite the loss, TCU is NOT regretting hiring Jamie Dixon. Texas announced earlier in the day that guard Andrew Young, the team's leading scorer, had been diagnosed with leukemia.
Louisville 73 #23 Florida State 69. The 'Noles 28 game home winning streak is over.
Connecticut 62 UCF 53.
Wofford 62 Harvard 62.
Kansas State 86 Oklahoma State 82
Loyola Chicago 68 Northern Illinois 61
Valpo 77 Drake 60
Northwestern 83 Minnesota 60. The Gophers are another Big 14 team that seems to have been overrated to start the year.

Andrew Young-leukemia. Aw, that's awful. Poor kid. Hope he gets healed. Young people (and some old) with so much to give and accomplish battling some bad diseases, while my life choices should've killed me long ago. Hard to fathom. All I can give them is my prayers. Thanks for adding this to the scoreboard, Sam.

Postby Motor City Sam » Fri Jan 12, 2018 7:26 pm

Scores from January 11, 2018.

HL Action:

Wright State 84 Northern Kentucky 81. Excellent home win for WSU as they try to put a secure hold on first place in the HL. They currently sit at 5-0 in conference. NKU falls to 4-1. YSU trails at 3-1 with tonight's game at U of D taking on extra significance. Grant Benzinger scored 31, but it was Cole Gentry with the late game heroics.

Titan Opponents:
East Tennessee State 68 UNC Greensboro 58. ETSU is 13-4, 4-0 in conference.
South Dakota 68 Fort Wayne 58. (Not a typo. The score is the same as the game above. ) Fort Wayne is 12-8, 1-2.
Jacksonville State 76 Murray State 71. Battle for first place in the OVC.
Seattle 67 Chicago State 64. Seattle is 12-7.
UCLA 83 Utah 64. The PAC 12 is soft this year.

Top 25 and Other Games of Interest:
#5 Wichita State 95 East Carolina 60. Cliff Levingston and Antoine Carr must be bursting with pride when they look at the Shockers now.
Oregon 76 #11 Arizona State 72. As I mentioned, I can hold a grudge forever. I still feel good when the Sun Devils lose because they took Shaq McKissic away from us.
#3 Gonzaga 103 Portland 57. Ouch.
#17 Arizona 62 Oregon State 53
NC State 78 #19 Clemson 77. NC State with another upset win to follow up their win over Duke.
Army 81 Lafayette 71. Be all you can be.
Navy 61 Holy Cross 56. Victory for the Global Force For Good.
Ohio State 91 Maryland 69. I think it was UD Baller who previously pointed out that Ohio State was looking good lately. He was right.
Houston 104 Tulsa 71.
Iowa 104 Illinois 97. These teams are a combined 1-9 in conference. Roy Marble and Kendall Gill are not amused.
Belmont 76 SIU-Edwardsville 61. Belmont is 12-6, 4-1.
New Mexico State 70 Grand Canyon 59
