JJJ Freshman of the Week

Postby Commissioner » Mon Nov 20, 2017 3:12 pm

JJJ was the Horizon's Freshman of the Week this week.

Disappointed that they chose Northern Kentucky's Lavone Holland over Corey Allen for Player of the week.

From League release re Holland:
Holland II, a preseason all-conference second team selection, led Northern Kentucky to the title game of the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase and runner-up finish, averaging 16.3 points, five assists, two rebounds, and 1.7 steals over three games. The senior guard maintained a 50-percent clip from the field throughout the tournament (14-of-28), including 9-of-18 shooting from 3-point range and 12-of-14 marksmanship from the charity stripe. Holland II scored in double figures in each of the Norse’s three contests in which NKU posted a 2-1 record, including a game-high 24-point outing in an 87-78, opening-round win versus James Madison. He posted the game-high assist mark in each of NKU’s contests. Holland II was named to the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase All-Tournament Team.

Allen, in three games, averaged 22.3 points, 3.7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 0.7 steals over three games. He shot over 50% from the field (21 for 40), including 11 for 21 from 3-point range and 14-16 from the charity stripe.

But Holland's team won, and that counts for something, too.

I was thinking over JJ Jr. and am hoping that he can develop into a David Holston type of player for the Titans. I think that may be his ceiling at this level, and he will need to work on both his shooting and passing to get there... but it would be fun to watch as a junior & senior if he can get his play to that level.

On a side note, why did we not offer Holston? LOL
