What should Detroit Mercy pay its MBB HC?

Obviously you pay more for talent, but what's the general rate we should pay given our situation and when comparing to other schools?

Trying to piece together what HL or similar schools pay. Kind of complicated because incentives seem more common than in the past.

UWGB base of $230,000 plus bonus incentives

I chose 301K to 325K because we have to pay for better than Kampe. It's a pride thing.

According to most in the know, we are paying well above Kampe rate right now and ... well ...

From what I have heard / know I believe Kampe is 8th in the league. 9 is Green Bay and 10 is Youngstown. 1 is Wright state at 500 plus and then every else is 450 to 300+. I think I'm close on this

Yeah, I know we do. Just a poor attempt at levity. Obviously, as things stand, we are not getting our money's worth.

We should pay what it takes to get the coach we want. The key thing is picking the right person, not setting the salary range. And the former is much more difficult than the latter.

Or we should get a Jesuit to do it for nothing. It's hard to believe there are no Jesuits capable of coaching a basketball team.

Plenty of Jesuits with PhDs who could be our President for half the cost. Not many with experience coaching basketball but I'd sure rather have one of them coach than an ex Harlem Globetrotter who subscribes to the law of attraction and swears at players.

If they do another contract they need to have a flat salary in the 250k range with performance bonuses to make it into the top 1 or 2 paid in the league. I would be for bonus for each rival game won, winning the horizon league, winning the metro cup ...etc.

The job he is doing he should pay UD to coach the team.
Base on what I seen he should have been gone along time ago.
I say some where between 100 - 125k is all are coach is worth.

Not that it matters, but SMD is not a swear word.

A low contract that is heavily incentivized contract is best. The coach should earn it. He does so, pay him.

Agreed. I'll do it for $35K with a $200K bonus for holding the opposition below 70 points per game. I'll immediately implement a zone defense and really start to junk up the games. We'll probably win about 8 games per year and I'll save the university about $250K. :D

I'll join that staff as a PR person. Sign me up to maintain a thread called "udballer's Defensive Goals" where I'll track our progress against these stated goals
