Unbelievable how poorly the university handled this. Not so much losing the appeal, but an inability to address it and then be honest with alumni and fans after false word got out that we won the appeal (perpetuated by our own coach!).

What will it take to fire Vowels?!

Yeah, I noticed that. Heck, that’s the least of our damn problems. Earl the Twirl still sometimes refers to us as UD and usually “Detroit” when he broadcasts on our home court. If Vowels can’t get the guy he’s paying at Calihan to get it right, why the hell would we expect the OU announcers that hate us to get it right?

There's the problem! We've been using Detroit Mercy Titan players, when we should have been using Detroit Titan players. Those Mercy Titan dudes just don't understand what it means.

Five years ago I asked a senior University official if they ever seriously considered rebranding as the “University of Detroit” during discussions with the outside consultants, the response was “everyone agreed that would lead to mass confusion.” Say what you will about the “Detroit Mercy” brand, but no one can make a case that it has resulted in any kind of consistency in how the school is referenced by media representatives, alumni, students, employers, the general public and even staff/faculty. It’s more all over the place than ever.

It is comical at this point to me. The new logo trying so hard to get people to think of Mercy by making the M the center point of it. Yet I don't think anyone outside of the school would say it works. To me "Mercy" is that person that is try so hard to be in with the cool kids while "Detroit" is the cool kid.
