Ballsy. I don’t see the downside of being a grad transfer and trying to improve your overseas stock.

Perhaps Cam’s been advised that he reached his ceiling as a collegiate player. The upside to leaving now is that he starts earning money as a professional athlete this year and arguably can develop his game faster by playing superior competition in Europe. If he transferred to a high-profile school, he wouldn’t necessarily be guaranteed significant playing time and there is always the chance of a serious injury. He already has earned his degree. I think him putting in for the NBA draft and signing with an agent is really with the realization that the next step is likely to involve playing overseas.

Here’s a thought: Was there a chance Cam might have been motivated or pressured to stay at UDM for his remaining year of eligibility if that meant his dad would continue on as a Titan assistant coach? Possibly the announcement today that Chatman is leaving means a decision on the HC was recently made, and the incoming guy made it clear that he has plans on bringing in a whole new staff. Or maybe I’m reading too much into this and we won’t hire a coach until the end of June.

Congratulations to Cam on earning his degree and hope he has success in basketball or whatever else he might end up doing down the road.

Cam's decision to enter the draft was publicized by a university press release on the same day that Corey Allen tweeted that he would transfer, March 21.

Five days later, Bacari was fired.

If I recall accurately UofDFan1983's posts, Bacari was planning a shake-up of the coaching staff before he was fired.

Ergo,, one can make a lot of reasonable inferences from these facts. But the bottom line now is that we have only 7 scholarship players returning as of now.

Yep, just seven scholarship players, but here’s the really scary part: included in that group of seven, you have:

- Josh McFolley who publicly announced he was transferring.
- T. Jones who I believe sued the University and also couldn’t stay academically eligible last season.
- Gerald Blackshear with injury issues.
- JJ Jr. who I have a hard time seeing as staying if his dad is cut from the UDM payroll.
- Jack Ballantyne who has strong past ties to JJ Sr.
- Malik Eichler who I heard a rumor was possibly looking to transfer.

It is not outside the realm of possibility that we could still have more defections. Unlikely, but if everything falls in the wrong direction, we could have Cole Long as the only returning scholarship player, and who knows, he might jump this sinking ship too. And of course, Memorial Day finds the program with no head coach in place to encourage players to stay and recruit additional personnel.

Hire a coach now!

Bob - I agree. It looks bleak. This is why it is a failed search process even if we end up with a good coach. If the university will not communicate even general goals and objectives for this search to its alumni, it should not be surprised with the reactions of many here. By refusing to talk about anything remotely connected to the process of hiring a new coach, the university has permitted others to set the narrative.

The business school ought to teach this search process as a case study in how not to market a business. In fact, I might endow such a class - especially if it is taught as a required class in a sports management major.

Well, I’ve been mostly negative lately but I’m hopeful that we can have a positive week this week. As far as next year, stranger things have happened. I remember tanking in 1935 (4–10) but winning the HL the next year by going 12–5 so never say never...

Tony Paul of the Detroit News Tweets: “Confirmed, and this is stunning: Kam Chatman will sign with an agent, enter the NBA Draft and skip his final season at Detroit Mercy. Another significant offseason blow for the Titans.”

I didn’t realize Isaiah Jones was a swingman! No wonder he never looked comfortable out there.

My Guess is that Cam makes an excellent living as a professional player overseas. He has very good skills and is an excellent shooter for his size. In face, several overseas draft sources are indicating that Cam is projected to go in the lower first round of the Úrvalsdeild karla, the Men’s Premier Basketball Leauge in Iceland.
