College notes: It’s been 363 days since UDM beat Oakland — in anything

This new story by Tony Paul in the Detroit News proves the AD has to go NOW:
Oakland University didn't just beat UD it embarrass (or whatever word you want to use) UD by 31 - 1.

That has to be the last straw UD must get rid of him not just for that but Where is the New Coach???????

The Metro series is a misleading statistic because in our strongest minor sport, we don't play Oakland; e.g., lacrosse. Also, in tennis. And in fencing, both our men's and women's teams beat Oakland head-to-head at the Midwest tournament held at Ohio State. Apparently, that does not count. In men's soccer, we played to a draw at Oakland in the only match of the year. So, the Metro series is a measure of our basketball teams, softball team, golf teams, and soccer teams. As well as relative performance of our track and cross-country teams. That is an incomplete measure of the total performance of all sports.

The fact that Vowels has presided over the strong lacrosse teams, men's tennis, and both fencing teams suggests that he is not an impediment to success. And hopefully, in two years, we will look back and note the 2017-18 season as the bottom of the trough in both basketball teams.

Vowels' weakness is in communicating things to the alumni, fans, and donors. Hopefully, he will take stock of the strong negative reactions to how he communicated about the coaching search and improve that aspect of his job.

PTC, cmon you don't really believe that do you? 31-1 is misleading statistic?? I think it is pretty indicative of OU's dominance over us across the board in athletics. Frankly its indisputable. As Rasheed Wallace to say "numbers don't lie".

And as always - we can go to the McCafferty standings which accumulates points based on teams success. We are on the board and in distant last place with...2 total points and OU yet again swamping the field and on their way to winning it all again. https://www.horizonleague.org/sports/20 ... ferty.aspx

Even if we give ourselves an arbitrary extra 10 wins (for whatever reason) we've merely closed the gap to 31-11 in the Metro Series. We don't have swimming teams (a strong suit for OU going back 30 years) so they don't get to rack up 2 more wins against us for those teams. We can do the tit for tat back and forth of why the Metro Series or McCafferty is slightly imperfect but the reality is the explanation is poor performance by the Titans.

Adding our fencing and lax teams doesn't exactly close the gap with OU or the HL.

I think if Vowels is still around in two year a lot of us will be gone! You might very well be on here posting to yourself.
