Former Detroit F/C Isaiah Jones is transferring to Goldey–Beacom (DII). https://t.co/C9l6sTZVVS

Let's see: Jones had two different head coaches here believing he could play and he did, but very, very sparingly. Mostly, he was damaged goods throughout his time as a Titan. He was educated though for at least two years and was part of the 2018 graduating class, unless I'm mistaken. We also gave him a framed jersey at Senior Day this year. UDM came out on the short end of this particular recruitment.

Isaiah Jones is a good person who endured a lot of injuries that prevented him from realizing his dreams as a basketball player. I wish him well in graduate school and wish him much success in life.

Yup. He gave the effort, played well when called upon in the limited role he was able to play; he never caused problems; he got his degree. I don't see how we "came out on the short end" unless one has the unrealistic expectation that every player will avoid injuries and be a star.

I agree. While it's a tad idealistic, it's still important to remember that college sports teams are opportunities for young men and women to use their skills to better themselves, get a good education, become contributors. I'd rather have a scholarship spent on an Isaiah Jones than a Parris Bass.

If I have this right, the Titans currently have eight scholarship players on board for 2018-19, four walk-ons. We could really use a power forward or two with the five remaining spots Coach Davis could potentially fill, but it’s starting to look like a team.

Scholarship players:

Gerald Blackshear (senior) 6-9 C/F

Malik Eichler (junior) 7-0 C/F

Cole Long (junior) 6-8 SF

Marquis Moore 6-6 (freshman) SF

Josh McFolley (senior) 6-1 G

Tra’Quan Knight (junior) 6-3 SG

Jacob Holland (senior) 6-4 SG

Antoine Davis (freshman) 6-1 PG

Walk-ons:

Musial Gjysma (junior) 6-6 F

Bass Ollie (sophomore) 6-4 SG

Ed Carter (junior) 6-1 PG

Jacob Joubert (junior) 6-2 PG

Wasn’t it reported that Antoine would not be a scholarship player?

At the introduction press conference, Mike Davis said that he was going to pay Antoine's tuition out of pocket, to save a scholarship.

Does that make Antoine a walk-on? Does it have any effect? After all, the child of an employee gets free tuition.

I think Joubert will be a sophomore? If any of the walk-ons were seniors I’d say just give them a scholarship.

I believe Musial is a senior.

Not that it matters, frankly, but since it's come up: For purposes of eligibility, Gyjsma is a junior, Joubert and Carter are sophomores. (In terms of entering college dates, Gyjsma would be a senior and the other two juniors). Ollie is a true soph.

I could very well be wrong, but I thought Bass Ollie was a scholarship player?

Any updates on Blackshear's health? We really need his size.

And I hope Eichler comes ready to play.

If I remember the discussion correctly about past children playing, non-scholarship players miss out on certain "benefits" like tutors, some training, team meals (maybe they pay their own).

Hearing at least 1, most likely 2 more BA players to transfer out.

From the group of scholarship players, or the four walk-ons?

There are only 4 scholarship players remaining from the previous regime. Long,Eichler,Blackshear and McFolley. McFolley has already stated that he's staying. Blackshear is a injury prone senior who hasnt been productive enough to be a hot commodity on the transfer market. That leaves Eichler and Long. I would like for them to stay but if they left it wouldnt be a great loss.
