We all need to relax a bit. OU did infarct recruit Davis. There is no proof that he was interested in committing to the grizz but there are several sources that can confirm that he was recruited by them. Unfortunately, those same sources did confirm that Davis did not pass OU's vetting process, mainly that he had a clean record and had no record of any bar fights.

Davis is now second in the Country in scoring. No other HL player is EVEN close:

1. Chris Clemons - Campbell - 31.6
2. Antoine Davis - Detroit - 31.0
3. Martaveous McKnight - Arkansas Pine-Bluff - 27.0
4. Carsen Edwards - Purdue- 26.6

All schools recruit a lot of players that they think they have a real chance at getting until they learn otherwise. That tweet did not bother me; I just wondered when they were recruiting him.

Tony Paul has been OK this year. I'm not going to get upset at things that I cannot control. Most of all reporters. I care most of all that we win more HL games than the "experts" have predicted. And that we win the HL tournament.

To me, the longer-term excitement from last night in order of importance was: 1) we won the game; 2) our coaches made great defensive adjustments at halftime that shut down Loyola's offense; 3) more players like Knight, Blackshear, and Hamrick began to show improvement; 4) we outrebounded Loyola 40-33; and, 5) Antoine scored 42 points. If we win more games than Oakland this season and beat them in the regular season, reporters like Tony Paul will notice.

+1 PC. We have a long way to go and one game doesn’t make a season. But we are in the best hands we’ve been in since Perry in his heyday IMHO.

Very nice game. Glad to see Coaches make adjustments to game situations. Young Davis was unbelieveable accurate and on his game. It was nice to see other players show there talents. Alot of kids are under recruited and I think we have a few on our roster. Its early but there are some building blocks. Let's keep this train moving foward.

See http://endlessmotor.net/2017/06/14/elit ... igh-major/.

In the past 2 months alone, Davis has picked up offers from Texas A&M, UMass, Cal State-Bakersfield, Oakland University and Nevada in addition to existing offers from Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, Colorado State, Arkansas-Little Rock, UTEP and UT-Martin.

I doubt they were ever too seriously in the running, but it doesn't matter. We should just be glad Tony Paul is tweeting about us, and that we have Davis and OU doesn't.

The following is from the Detroit News’ Tony Paul. (FWIW, in a different section of the article he ranks Detroit Mercy as the sixth best team in the state of Michigan, Oakland is seventh.)

Player of the week

►Antoine Davis, Fr., guard, Detroit Mercy: He was last week's freshman of the week, and as hard as I'll try to be balanced here, his name is going to be a mainstay either here or in the other category (freshman of the week). The son of new head coach Mike Davis, he scored 42 in his father's first win at Detroit Mercy, 91-63 over Loyola (Md.) at Calihan Hall on Monday. The 42 points is a Detroit Mercy freshman record, and the most scored by any Titan since Willie Green scored 43 in a game in 2003. It's the sixth-most in school history. Davis, who originally committed to Houston, was averaging 31 points, second in Division I, heading into Tuesday night's game against Bowling Green. His only "down" game was the 20-pointer against Butler, and he was sick all that week, and not able to practice.

Our next opponent, EMU, plays a zone defense. It will interesting to see how Antoine Davis’ game fares against this defensive approach.

Putting this out there—Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis is the best shooter/scorer in cbb who no one has heard of. Just watched him put 42 on Loyola. 10 made 3s. Remember the name.

You'll read about him, his dad, and the upside down story of UDM basketball this week on The Athletic

Rashad Philips posted some highlights of Antoine on Twitter and said he was the “best scorer in the country”. He also agreed with someone in the comments that Antoine should be a “One and Done” player.

It's a great start for #0. However, from here forward will be another test with defenses now looking to stop him. Dayton manhandled Butler for most of yesterday's game in the Bahamas. Xavier is starting to find some traction. Eastern is not going to shoot 2-25 against us on Saturday.

He scored 32 at WMU and we lost by double digits. He scored 32 vs BG and we won by double digits. The difference? Better defense and better rebounding. We have a long way to improve before we can become a consistent winner with a star shooting 3's for us. But I do believe the switch was thrown in that direction at the start of the second half of the Loyola MD game when we adjusted the zone and shut them down. First time since the 2015-16 season that we beat two D1 teams back-to-back and held them both under 70 points in each game.

i agree eastern will not go 2 fer 25. that kind of shooting however is not the mark of a good team. this game too should be winnable if we find our road game. need to play a full 40 minutes.

I personally doubt Antoine will be one and done. But I can see him leaving school early for the NBA draft after his junior year.
