2018-19 Schedule

Postby ptctitan » Wed Sep 05, 2018 7:26 am

Wonder if the HL will release its conference schedule today, the first Wednesday in September, like it did last year?

I am assuming that concurrent with the release of the regular season conference schedule, there will also be an announcement about the format for Motor City Madness. Looking forward to hearing about both, and like you my guess is that the news will come out today or perhaps it will be tomorrow.

At least both OU games fall on saturdays. Should be good for attendance.

Looks like all Thursday and Saturday splits. Five Saturday home games, much better than in the recent past.

It's really a weird schedule.

We have one home non-con game in December, 6 home HL games in January, bookend HL home games in February (2nd and 28th) to begin and the end the month. And the last home game is March 2.

From the end of the Legends Classic on November 20 until January 2, 2019, there are 2 home games. (2 more than Coach Davis wants) Then, from Jan 3 to Feb 2, we play 7 of 9 HL games at home. Then, we run the gauntlet on the road at Wright St, NKU, Milwaukee, GB, and Oakland.

Antifragile to the end!

On a somewhat related scheduling note, the University is promoting “Detroit Mercy Night” involving a Red Wings game at the LCA on November 28, same evening the MBB team hosts Kent St. in Calihan Hall.

Nice job! So now we are paying someone to take butts out of Calihan. Who down there has a problem with hiring competent people?

Our Saturday home games all tip at 1:00 pm with the exception of the Oakland matchup which is TBD.

The HL television schedule will be announced on Tuesday. Perhaps that Is the day we’ll also hear details of a new Motor City Madness format. The TBD time on the Titans’ home game against Oakland hints that the matchup will be nationally televised.

My bet would be that the LCA date was picked a while ago, and scheduling college games is very difficult and this may have been the only day we could play Kent St. at home. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

How about a Detroit-Mercy day AT Calihan? Or a Red Wings fan and player day at Calihan? How about we move up in conferences and change our name back?

The Kent St. game was initially reported on this message board on July 25; presumably the University knew about this MBB matchup weeks or at least several days before that date. Between the Red Wings and Pistons franchises, I believe there are 82 regular season home dates at the LCA that serve as the universe of potential dates for a Detroit Mercy aligned event with the NHL or NBA teams. (A good percentage of the pro teams’ schedules occur after the college basketball season ends.) Once the direct conflict in dates was apparent, it would seem that there was ample time to negotiate a different date for this elective promotion that wouldn’t put the University in the position of siphoning its own supporters from attending a Calihan Hall college basketball game.

This confirms the Wayne State exhibition game:

https://detroittitans.com/news/2018/9/6 ... s-k-5.aspx

It hasn’t been included on the DetroitTitans.com website with the other previously announced non-conference MBB games, and I heard some idle speculation that it might be scratched, but obviously that is not the case.

Maybe, they will unveil the roster and coaches at that exhibition game. :D
