DePaul 100, South Florida 96 (OT). DePaul evened the CBI final at 1 game each with an overtime win in Chicago. LaQuincy Rideau had 35 for USF (23-14), but DePaul (19-16) countered with 32 from Max Strus and a career best 28 points and 16 rebounds from center Paul Reid. Strus has averaged 29 points in 5 CBI games. They'll play the final game on Friday in Chicago.

How many days of school are these kids missing to play in the damn CBI tourney?

All so we can determine who is the 101st best team in the country.

I think what you mean is, if these kids didn't have the CBI, how many days of practice would they have to forfeit just to attend classes?

Horizon
Marshall 90, Green Bay 70. They are Marshall, and winners of the CIT. Green Bay actually led this game by 7 points with 13:40 to play, and was still up 59-58 with 12 minutes to play. But it was all Marshall from there on out. Marshall finishes 23-14. A Green Bay win would have guaranteed them the 2nd longest winning streak in the country going into 2020, but they'll end with a loss and a 21-17 record. It's the 2nd year in a row the Horizon has contributed the runner-up to this prestigious, venerable tournament. 5748 in attendance at Marshall.

Other
Texas 81, Lipscomb 66. Lipscomb's NIT dreams go thud in the final. Take that scrappy mid-majors! Texas finishes 21-16, Lipscomb 29-8. It's Texas's second NIT title, having beaten North Carolina State in the final way back in 1978. A disappointing 4051 in attendance at the Garden.

Ha, another way of looking at it. Now I just read that Zion is at the Final Four to accept an award from a writers association. I don’t think many people expect Zion to actually finish the semester at Duke, but there’s not even an effort to pretend academics matter anymore. There’s something seriously wrong with college athletics right now when it comes to the value of academics, finishing degrees, and being in class. MBB is the worst of them and Duke is the biggest offender.

Well, finally all the "other" tournaments end.

South Florida 77, DePaul 65. In the CBI final, USF (24-14) jumped out to an early 17 point lead, then fought off a rally that brought DePaul to within 1 early in the second half, and gradually pulled away. DePaul drew 1876 for the game. And what does this mean for the Horizon? It means that Cleveland State will start next season with the 4th longest winning streak in the country (2).

Now we can focus on the big show.

Saturday, April 6
Texas Tech 61, Michigan State 51. State's comeback fell short and Tech ended the game on a 9-0 run.

Virginia 63, Auburn 62. An exciting game, if not always a well-played one. Kyle Guy made 3 free throws with 1 second left to put UVa in the final.

Texas Tech should have attacked the basket on that last possession of regulation. It was tied with about 10 seconds left and they hoisted a pretty bad 3 point attempt. I get that UVA was defending well inside and had some good blocks. But I think in that situation you drive and try to force a foul.
