Youngstown State February 2

Postby Commissioner » Sat Feb 02, 2019 1:50 am

Here's a game preview. http://udtitanbasketball.freeforums.net ... 922/thread.

Have to protect the home court against the 9th place team if we want to be taken seriously as contenders for a Top 4 finish.

HL standings are tight. We're in a 4 way tie for 2nd place. Also YSU needs this game in the worst way as they are in 9th place 1 game out of the playoffs.

1. NKU 8-2
2. IUPUI 6-4
3. WSU 6-4
4. OU 6-4
5. UD 6-4
6. GB 5-5
7. UIC 5-5
8. MIL 4-6
9. YSU 3-7
10. CSU 1-9

youngstown is a 5.5 point dog in this one. that means giving up more than we did to cleveland state. not sure of the wisdom in that and not sure we will cover but worth a small gamble to keep it interesting.

Good crowd when the camera pans around but the benches behind the teams (what you see 95% of the time) are nearly empty.

Not often you see a game come down to a coach throwing a shoe across the court.

It really is a shame that Boeheim never taught Devendorf *NOT* to launch shoes across the court during the games. That coaching pro tip could have made all the difference.

I can, that might be the worst exhibition of basketball I have watched over the last 4 minutes.

King lost his shoe and then when transitioning to defense, Devendorf literally threw it Tom Brady style across the court. When I was watching on tv I honestly thought there was a white bird in the building. Hasty and Earl were both stunned and really didn’t know what to say. The throw resulted in a T and a 4 point swing and cost us the game. There, now you don’t need to watch the replay.

Take a good look around the plane. Some of our team must be on there with you because they sure were not at Calihan today. King played well on Thursday but he sure made up for it today. Brandon must have been a real screw off in practice this week because he didn't get on the floor today when we were getting killed on the boards.

We have not learned how to win a close game.

This was a repeat of the Kent State and Ohio games - losing on a 3-point FG in the closing seconds. Yes, Devendorf got the technical. However, we missed several important shots in the final 2 minutes. And we did not defend Morgan as a 3 point shooter. Just as we did not defend the Ohio and Kent State players. Lots of things broke down under pressure. That's the mark of an inexperienced team. That's who we are.

Tough loss. Alot of lessons learned. Would like to see us get more fast break points. I thought Hamrick played well he has shown a well rounded skill set. Along with Blackshear and Davis.

Loss purely on Devendorf. Go back to ESPN+ and watch the last 2:40 of the game. The entire narrative changes after that 4 point swing and our guys look numb.

SportsCenter really should give the Titans 15 seconds of coverage tonight. Mention Davis hitting his 100th 3 of the year and show the clip of Devendorf launching the shoe.

Ouch all I can say is that one hurt! Now we need to be very careful not to lose 5 straight road games or we might be the ones in the outside looking in come playoff time.

+1 Yup! Disappointment over, I feel bad for the kids. I think we need homecourt advantage and I'm not sure we know how to use it. We do not know how to close out games and we start using a lot of the shot clock just to rush at the end. We have killed our own momentum in every one of these losses. There is no need to beat us we beat ourselves. Congrats to Youngstown they played hard and didn't hold back. We got a majority of the calls but they kept coming and when the end was in sight we showed we didn't know how we got there.
