Non-conference MBB schedule for 2019-20

Postby Rogobob77 » Wed Mar 27, 2019 1:11 pm

Titans negotiating exempt tournament involving Clemson and TCU; EMU, Toledo, Dayton and Xavier. Probably a couple Power-6 name opponents.

The exempt tourney would be the MGM Resorts Main Event in Vegas on 11/25 & 11/27. The "Heavyweight Bracket" or Host Teams are: Clemson Tigers (ACC), Colorado Buffaloes (Pac-12), TCU Horned Frogs (Big 12), Wyoming Cowboys (MW). Not sure we would go to Vegas - we'd probably just play at 2 of the host teams and maybe a game home and a game away vs 2 of the lesser team that get involved (Although it could be we'd play at 2 of the host teams plus 2 games in a mini tournament format with the 3 other mid majors in the "Middleweight Bracket" in Cox Pavilion in Vegas - see 2018's format link below)

From the BuffZone, a Colorado based site:

...the MGM Resorts Main Event in Las Vegas, a showcase that will include two home games likely against mid-major programs followed by two games at T-Mobile Arena in Vegas the week of Thanksgiving. The matchups and full roster of teams has yet to be finalized, but sources indicated three of the other programs scheduled to compete are Clemson, TCU and Wyoming.

Being in the Middleweight bracket would be cool. Just playing other teams is rather Meh. And it certainly doesn’t qualify as tournament.

Even cooler would be each player on the winning teams in both brackets being awards championship belts, like something out of a boxing match or the wwe. It's in Vegas, so why not "Vegas it up"?

Very interesting comments by John Beilein after last night's game.

With teams like Texas Tech and Gonzaga switching every screen, isolation basketball will have to be the answer. If you don't have good one-on-one players, you won't be able to contend on a national level.

The days of high assist totals may be coming to an end.

Heard tonight we will be in the exempt tournament referenced above, playing at Clemson (on November 17) and Wyoming (not TCU). That event will also send us to Vegas for a couple games with mid-major opponents. We have a game at Utah and likely Colorado. We should have five home games, including EMU and Toledo. Still four or five games to complete the non-conference slate. Currently negotiating with St. Louis and St. Bonaventure for home and away series.

i would love to have the bonnies and st louis at home.
In Greek mythology, the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power! Well that basketball court out there tonight, that's our universe. Let's rule it like Titans! (with apologies to coach boon)

Titans play at Notre Dame, December 10.

WOTS has Detroit Mercy playing three ACC teams in 2019-20 — Clemson on Nov. 17, ND and ???

It’s illegal to tailgate at the basketball games but I say go for it.

It’s not North Carolina: https://goheels.com/news/2019/6/13/mens ... edule.aspx

So it must be NC State or Wake Forrest.

I get in enough trouble on campus as it is.

But, plenty of good restaurants very close. Brother’s and O’Rourke’s both good pre-game venues.

Rogo, why might it not be one of the other ACC teams? Miami or Clemson (we're playing them in soccer this fall) or BC or UVa or Virginia Tech (again)? State might not want to mess with us again because last time we played them (about six year ago) if was a last-second miss that kept us from beating the Pack. Did I miss something that it would be a Tobacco Road game? In which case I hope it's Wake because it's closer to me and I have a friend who is big in the Deacon Club and seats at midcourt.
