Statement of Cleveland State AD.

Following an evaluation of the men's basketball program, Scott Garrett, CSU's director of athletics, has announced that head coach Dennis Felton and his staff have been relieved of their duties.

"We take our mission to provide CSU student-athletes with a transformational experience very seriously. Our coaches operate with the expectation that they should build a culture supportive of our student-athletes in the classroom, accountable for their conduct as representatives of the University, and for their performance on the court," said Garrett. "We will seek a new leader for our program who can deliver on this commitment."

Patrick Vuyancih will serve as special assistant to the director of athletics to assist with administration of the men's basketball program until a permanent coach is named. Patrick is a long-time local basketball coach and former Viking basketball student-athlete who currently serves as Cleveland State men's basketball radio and television analyst and as a program coordinator in CSU's College of Education.

I'm confused by the AD's grammar in his quote. Does the "their" in "their conduct" and "their performance" refer to the players or the coaches? Or both?

It's awful late to be firing (and hiring). Something serious must've come to light.

The article also said Rashad Williams is transferring to Oakland. I wonder when Kampe will write a check to CSU for the year he spent as a Viking.

Cleveland St. reportedly first reached out to MSU assistant Dwayne Stephens to fill their coaching vacancy, but he declined. A Cleveland area high school coach, Eric Flannery, was also on the AD’s radar but removed his name from consideration.

In this he meantime, players continue to jump from the sinking Viking ship. Dibaji Walker just announced he’s headed to the transfer portal, and the folks counting heads indicate CSU is down to three scholarship players.

Wow, that’s all very sad. Who are the three players sticking around? Seniors that just want to get their degrees?

They are senior guard Kash Thomas (5.8 ppg), junior forward Al Eichelberger (5.2 ppg), and junior guard Torrey Patton (incoming JC recruit). Eichelberger probably has limited options as he has already transferred once (from DePaul).

Patton seems to be a pretty decent player looking at his JUCO stats and the fact he started out at Akron. But, his twitter account lists his location as “under the rador.” Cleveland State is probably a good place for him academically.

The Vikes open at Minnesota on November 5, just three months and change from now. I like the Gophers in that one.

just another example of how far the league has sunk. i said 7 or 8 years ago while on a road trip to wisconsin with reggie that the league was slowly sliding off a cliff and we needed to get out . it was the topic of debate the whole weekend and included reggie's greenbay buddies. everyone had their opinions and the engagements were lively and respectful. its one of those times when wish i had been wrong.

Cleveland St. expected to hire Florida State assistant David Gates according to media report. Here’s a long bio:

Is this the same guy who used to be the lead singer for the pop-rock group Bread? It don’t matter to me.
