Games 19 & 20: Titans vs. Robert Morris

Postby Rogobob77 » Wed Feb 17, 2021 7:46 pm

Robert Morris, the newest addition to the Horizon League, comes to Calihan Hall this weekend for the finale of the regular season. A sweep by the Titans would guarantee a winning overall record for 2020-21 and hopefully move Detroit Mercy up in seeding for the conference tournament. Here’s a link to the DetroitTitans.com preview for Friday/Saturday’s games:

In Greek mythology, the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power! Well that basketball court out there tonight, that's our universe. Let's rule it like Titans! (with apologies to coach boon)

oakland is seeded third? go figure. was pleased to hear earl criticize the league's seeding practices last night. ....earl is a great analyst and brings a lot of insight in his commentary. his analyses are always even handed and fair....applauding good play from wherever it comes. we are blessed to have him! he also pointed out that davis was about to pass debusschere on the all time scoring list and had played about the same amount of games (80). quite a feat!

I agree with your assessments, mac, except for Davis outscoring Big Dave. Granted, similar # of games, but I would venture that Antoine has taken a lot more shots than DeBusschere.

Antoine and Dante Treacy from RMU got the double technicals late in the game, and it was foul #5 on Treacy, so he was out of the game. It seemed to me that AD was grinning like he was telling other Titans that he goaded Treacy into the double to get him out of the game.

Today is Antoine's 80th game--the same number Big Dave played. DeBusschere took 1916 shots. AD has taken just 1641 shots. In Big Dave's era, everybody just played run and shoot, and field goal percentages were much lower. DeBusschere's career shooting percentage was .423--very good for the time, but today that would be considered poor for a big man.

I didn’t realize how much different the game was then and now. I would have never guessed that Debusschere took
more shots than Davis in the same number of games. If anything I would have guessed the opposite. I just missed Debusschere as my dad started taking me to games in 1965 when I was 5 though I can barely remember the games I do remember the names like Salci and Rodwan and many others from then onward.

antoine with a 4-1 assist to turnover ratio tonight. frazer 3-1. those are nice numbers, especially with only 8 turnovers for the game. thats how to win ball games!

have to remember there was no 3 point shot in dave's era... not that dave took all that many, if any? the speculation is now and always has been thought that if there was a long line then, john long might still be the all time scoring leader? he loved to pour them in from the deep corner! string music! those are the shots that made me a titan fan! that and terry's big blocks!
