LaMarcus played in one game at Vincennes University which counted as a year of eligibility. Western Michigan was his second year of eligibility.

Most basketball players attend "prep" schools after their senior year of high school. Some "prep" schools are nothing more than basketball factories and diploma mills ran by AAU "coaches". The New York Times published an article which listed several "prep" schools who employed no teachers.

I'm surprised that DeBerry is going juco rather than prep. First,'he won't turn 18 until this fall- he's very young. Nor has he played ball that long. Many of these "academies" are very good because they understand that their livelihood requires getting scholarship offers for players- and to do that they have to get them qualified.

Anyway, the NCAA rule is that a non-qualifier who goes juco must either graduate or complete 3 semesters, including 6 hours if English and 4 of math. I don't know if summer term counts- if so deberry could be eligible in a year, otherwise not until at least december of '13.

The advantage for UD with his going juco is that his LOI with Detroit remains binding Until he graduates from the juco- so know one else can recruit him for the next two years.

By the way, a qualifier - say Calhoun- can go juco for just a year or even a semester and then move to DI. They have none of the same restrictions on academics.

Five-star post Commish! Thanks for the clarification. It's good to know he's signed and ready to go as a Titan in 2 years.

In a "by the way," Trent Windemuller, DeBerry's Holland teammate who got some discussion on the old board simply because Coreante expressed how nice it would be to continue to play with his friend, has signed with Millikin College, a Division III program in Illinois. Millikin was 1-24 last year and outscored by an average of 23 points per game, so Trent has his work cut out for him. But who knows, maybe we'll see Millikin come to Calihan Hall in November 2014 as a favor to both Coreante and to Trent's father, Holland Coach Steve Windemuller.
