I think the release missed the word "tournament" in here somewhere. The 2011-12 banner is not going to say "HL Champions" (hopefully the 2012-13 will!)

The Horizon League site lists Detroit as the Men's Basketball Champion. The qualification these days goes to the Regular Season Champion (Valpo) but the tournament winner is the league champion. After all, who goes to the NCAA?

According to the NBA, Spencer Haywood has a ring from the 1980 season.

"After that season, Haywood was traded to the New York Knicks for cash and a draft choice. In the Big Apple he led the life of a star. He married glamorous fashion model Iman, and the celebrity couple were regulars on the social scene. But New York acquired Bob McAdoo during the 1976-77 season, and the Knicks found themselves with two high-scoring forward. In the middle of the 1978-79 campaign, Haywood was swapped to the New Orleans Jazz for Joe C. Meriweather. When the Jazz moved to Utah for the next season, Haywood was sent to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Adrian Dantley.

He averaged only 9.7 points in a limited role with the Lakers in 1979-80 but earned his only championship ring that year."

My other complaints still stand though :)

From Wikipedia:

The ACC Men's Basketball Tournament (popularly known as the ACC Tournament) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). ... The ACC elected to eliminate the regular season title following the 1961 season and declare the tournament champion the sole champion of the conference from then on. Since July 1, 1961, the ACC's bylaws have included the phrase "and the winner shall be the conference champion" in referring to the tournament.

(The Big 10, on the other hand, refers to the tournament winner as the Tournament Champion.)
