I'm looking forward to seeing Juwan this year. He comes in with lots of playing time from WMU where he demonstrated some scoring punch.

On paper he looks to be an upgrade from Chase.

He won't be an upgrade immediately, Chase played hard all the time, he had a "go to player" mentality without the "go to player" talent. Coach Mac absolutely loved Chase, and he had the green light. Not sure if Howard Jr. will get that same type of love.

Chase drove me crazy with his on court decisions and amazingly inconsistent performances. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Chase never got a lot of love here, but he was a two-time all-conference selection and a 1000 point scorer, who became quite a tenacious defender. I like howard a lot but I'm not sure it's an upgrade. Well have to see.

16 double digit scoring games as a freshman ain't bad. Add to it, the guy is a son of a NBA star and a product (Pershing) of a solid HS program.

I would say it is an upgrade.

On paper, this might be coach Ray's career year as well. If everyone stays healthy 25 wins would be expected. If they got 22 last year amongst all the turmoil, how could you figure otherwise?

Seniors is why last year. Also two very good seniors @ the post. I would be surprised to win 25 games.

Howard's stats as a freshman are shy of Chase's stats his senior season. But the stats don't reflect defense, which is where Chase made his living in the second half of 2011-12.

We'll know the answer in about ten months.

Freshman head-to-head stats, Howard was much better, mostly because he played a lot more. And I think Howard will, overall, be better offensively. Chase could go off for 30 points once or twice a year, and I see Howard as more consistent. Chase did play tough D, and I do not know if Juwan is much of a defender. From what I remember seeing about Juwan at WMU is that he is more of banger than a shooter.

Freshman year comparisons (both at MAC schools):
Chase: 11.1 mins, 40-95 fgs (42%), 6-28 3s (21%), 12-23 fts (52%), 1.4 rebs, 0.2 assts, 0.2 stls, 0.0 blocks, 1.4 to's, 3.9 pts
Juwan: 23.0 mins, 111-287 fgs (39%), 31-101 3s (31%), 63-80 fts (79%), 4.0 rebs, 1.5 assts, 0.5 stls, 0.7 blocks, 1.5 to's, 9.3 pts

I note that Brundidge said in that article yesterday:
"I had played with Juwan (Howard Jr.) when I was 10 or 11 years old. I didn't realize he was on the team, and once they told me, that just made it even better."

If Howard wasn't on the team I doubt Brundidge would mention him.

Yes, it is call homesickness, and it affects nearly 50% of college freshmen who go west of I-69 their first year in school. With a transfer and time, it can be cured.

I think we shouldn't be so quick to pounce on posters, even if they may be from another school. JHJ left WMU and there were some health rumors -- maybe by bitter or upset fans, or maybe with some truth. Ober was just asking a question that I have heard Titan fans ask -- albeit, not on this board until now. JHJ was with the team last year, and played at the midnight madness event. He didn't show any signs of a injury or illness. That is all I know.

from my sources, Juwan leaving WMU had absolutely nothing to do with health issues. It was the way that he was handled by the coaching staff, he had a personal issue and the staff did not handle it well. It did not sit well with him and he left. Nothing more, nothing less.
