- Jeremiah Hergott returns home to the state of Michigan as the newly appointed Sports Information Director at the University of Detroit Mercy. Hergott joins UDM after spending the last four years at Colgate University where he served as the Director of Athletic Communications.

“We are excited to have Jeremiah join our external affairs team,” said Jason Horn, UDM Associate Athletics Director. “He brings great enthusiasm and creativity to Calihan Hall and will prove to be one of the top SIDs in the region.”

Hergott will begin his new assignment at the University on July 23, 2012.

A native of Ann Arbor, Hergott was responsible for all of the public and media relations matters for Colgate's 25 Division I athletic programs along with the day-to-day operation of the sports information office and the athletic website. Hergott served as the primary contact for several sports including the Raiders football, men's and women's basketball, and softball programs.

Over the last two years, Hergott headed a campaign in digital marketing and social media, developing and expanding Colgate Athletics on Facebook and Twitter and through the use of text messaging. He also served as the lead contact for the athletic department's new website design along with overseeing and editing all of the multimedia content for the Raiders.

During his time at Colgate, Hergott designed and launched two new websites, integrated three new social media techniques and received five College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Publication awards.

Prior to joining Colgate, Hergott served one year as an athletic media relations assistant at the University of Michigan. During his tenure with U-M, he promoted five teams -- men's and women's track & field and cross-country along with men's swimming and diving.

Hergott developed media strategies for 14-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps along with two-time gold medalist Peter Vanderkaay and U.S. National Team assistant swimming coach Bob Bowman.

Hergott was also recognized for his work nationally earning Swimming World Sports Information Director of the Year /(Honorable mention)/ along with two CoSIDA Publications awards for the 2007 women's cross-country media guide. The guide earned the honor of the nation's best cover and was the second best media guide overall.

Hergott is a graduate of Ferris State University, where he earned a bachelor of science in business and public relations. He also holds a degree in residential design and is a member of CoSIDA, Public Relations Society of American (PRSA), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).

What They Are Saying About Jeremiah Hergott

"Jeremiah is a true visionary, and his oversight and implementation of multi-media and the use of social networking has been a hallmark in not only the Colgate athletics department, but in the field of athletics communication. He was a consummate professional and effectively led his communications team to serve as a link between the public and our 25 varsity programs. We were so fortunate to have him as a member of the Raider family and will miss him. Keri (Gaither) and the Detroit Titans made a great hire and we are happy that Jeremiah will be closer to his family and wish him and his wife Jennifer great luck." - Vicky Chun - Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator - Colgate University

“Jeremiah is great at thinking outside the box and keeping up with new and innovative ways to promote student-athletes and athletics to fans. It has truly been a pleasure watching him develop over the past four years.” - Shondell D. Reed - Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Internal and External Operations - Colgate University

"I have no doubt that Jeremiah will find continued success as UDM's Sports Information Director. His passion for sports and genuine care for the student athletes combined with his attention to detail and understanding and implementation of various media outlets consistently produces great work." - Matt Langel - Head Men's Basketball Coach - Colgate University

“Jeremiah is the type of person that loves his work with passion and performs it with great distinction and accuracy. He brings a "joie de vivre" and elegance to the office that is most positive and contagious. The cool and calculated expert manner by which he handled his duties at Colgate University during our amazing "Cinderella Story" run with our Men's Lacrosse and Ice Hockey programs reminded me of the time he spent as our University of Michigan Swimming sports information liaison, orchestrating the international media frenzy surrounding the "Michael Phelps Phenomenon" prior to the Beijing Olympics. Jeremiah will be greatly missed at Colgate.” Fernando Canales - Mark S. Randall Coaching Chair for Swimming and Diving - Colgate University

"Jeremiah made a great impression with me and he did the same with everyone at Colgate. I am confident he is going to do the same thing for the University of Detroit Mercy." Bruce Madej - Associate Athletic Director for Special Projects – University of Michigan. ... 24319.aspx
