The law school is looking to hire a major gift officer. I received this message by email today:

The university is hiring for a new Major Gift Officer for the Law School--see the description below. If you are interested, or know someone who would be excellent for the position, please let us know or pass this along. Thank you.

The Major Gift Officer for the School of Law is responsible for planning and managing the overall major gift work for the school. They will work through University Advancement and in conjunction with the School of Law. The Major Gift Officer for the School of Law will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and developing an overall major gift program that will support both the specific initiatives of the School of Law and the University of Detroit Mercy’s overall development efforts. The MGO identifies, qualifies, cultivates and solicits donor prospects and stewards donors according to the performance expectations established by University Advancement.

The MGO will have the ability to work with the Dean and appropriate faculty and staff to develop and maintain a comprehensive approach to external relations, and to fulfill the major gift portion of that plan, which will include, but not be limited to, assisting the Dean with local, regional, and national strategies to increase both the amount of monies raised and the number of donors giving to the school, and performing other duties as assigned.

The MGO must possess a commitment to support and articulate the University’s Catholic, Jesuit and Mercy mission; have excellent verbal and written communication skills; have appropriate computer skills in support of fundraising; have the interpersonal skills to work effectively with major gift prospects and donors, and volunteers and University leaders; have the ability to contribute to University Advancement as part of the Major Gift Team; and have a basic working knowledge of the legal profession and the pertinent issues affecting students and donors in this area.
