Chuck Berry

Not basketball related, I know. So sorry to hear of his passing, though. His heyday was when I was a baby (and even before that) but his music was timeless and infectious. I've heard it said by detractors (mercifully few), that he was a bit of a one trick pony...but, damn, it was a good trick, you know? I don't pretend like a celebrity's passing is the same as a when you lose a loved one, but I really liked this man. His repertoire never fails to make me tap my foot and feel better about things. He is one of the few "older" artists that my daughter will listen to. I regret that I never saw him play live. RIP.

In recent years Chuck was playing a monthly gig at a small St. Louis bar: http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2014/09/ ... -schedule/ I discovered that fact the last time I visited that town, but unfortunately he wasn't scheduled to perform the week I was there.
