UDM Law partners with Oakland U. on accelerated program

A partnership between UDM and Oakland allows students to earn a bachelor's and JD in six years instead of the normal seven it would take going full time. As I recall, Oakland had a program like this with what is now Western Michigan University Cooley Law School back before the Western Michigan part was added. I hope this gives the law school a little boost that might not have otherwise materialized.

I threw up a little in my mouth when I read this.

Now all the success in increasing BAR pass rate goes down the toilet!

LOL. Hopefully these students need to meet the average LSAT score still. I suspect the law school, like many law schools today, is so desperate for tuition revenue that they will bend quite a bit. I always suspected that OU might buy Cooley, but ultimately even OU wasn't dumb enough to purchase that piece of crap.

In the article there is a discussion of requirements for the program. I don't remember all of them, but it required a pretty good GPA. I don't think it mentioned the LSAT score. For whatever its worth, my undergrad at OU propelled me through the law school.

Regarding Tacitus' comment about Cooley, when OU had that affiliation going, the initial plan was for Cooley to locate on OU's campus. But they wanted like 60 acres of land. OU rightly balked, Cooley located a couple miles away, and ultimately the affiliation was canceled and Cooley became affiliated with Western. Funny that Western now has a campus in Tampa, FL. I really don't get why the ABA allowed that. Law schools aren't like McDonalds -- there can't be one at every freeway exit. I know our law school is no great shakes but I'm happy to see two of my alma maters working together.
