Titans break Tar Heels 29 year old record

Postby JimmyChitwood » Thu May 29, 2014 7:27 am

It was a record-setting year for the Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team as the Titans officially set the standard for man-up offense with the release of the final 2014 NCAA statistics on Tuesday.

Detroit broke North Carolina's 29-year old record in man-up offense efficiency (.586) as Titans dominated the mark, scoring at a .708 clip -- converting on 34-of-48 opportunities. In 1985, when the Tar Heels claimed the record, they were 41-of-70 in 13 games.

In conference play alone, UDM was 12-of-16 (.750) and that didn't include its 2-for-2 total in the MAAC championship semifinals. Detroit scored at least three man-up goals in six games on the year.

Six players contributed to the 34 man-up goals, led by Shayne Adams' school-record 14, while Alex Maini had seven, Mike Birney netted six, Brandon Beauregard and Scott Drummond had three apiece and Tom Masterson came away with one.
