Mark Anstead a top Freshman in the country

Postby GoTitans » Tue Mar 03, 2015 10:15 am

The future is bright. The loss of attackman Shayne Adams at the end of this year is greatly softened by the return of freshman Mark Anstead.
At Detroit, former Gonzaga (D.C.) attackman Mark Anstead has been a big reason why the Titans have been able to win games over Ohio State, Robert Morris and most recently, Bellarmine. He’s now tied for third in the nation for freshman scoring with a team-leading nine goals and eight assists through five outings. On Sunday, he tallied three goals on assists (on five shots) and also caused a turnover. Anstead, who committed to Detroit over Monmouth over Mercyhurst, had a nice senior campaign, scoring 20 goals and 20 assists for the WCAC champions. A product of Blackwolf, he was sometimes overshadowed by then-juniors like Richie Petitbon and Timmy Monahan but was still a calming force at attack, showing off his high lacrosse IQ, vision and two-handedness. The Titans will host Mercer this week before a 10-day break leading up to a trip to Colorado Springs to play Air Force, led by freshman Chris Walsch.

Make it three-straight weeks that Titan rookie Mark Anstead has won an award from the MAAC as he was tabbed the Rookie of the Week for the second time this year on Monday.

It is the third time Anstead has won an award as he was named the Rookie of the Week on Feb. 16 and the Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 23.

Anstead tallied six points over the weekend at the Midwest Classic finishing with a goal, assist and ground ball against No. 16/17 Marquette and three goals with an assist and a caused turnover at Bellarmine. It was also his second hat trick of the season.

Anstead has tallied a goal in all five games to start his collegiate career and he still leads the team with 17 points, nine goals and eight assists.

The Titans will be back in action on Wednesday, March 4, as the red, white and blue host Mercer at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac. Fans, please be advised that the game time has been moved up to a Noon start.
