Western Michigan 103, Siena Heights 72. We'll play both these teams this year, and can probably win at least one of the two. Thomas Wilder led Western with 16 points and 6 assists.
Duquesne 80, St. Francis (NY) 70. Detroit freshman Eric Williams led Duquesne with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Duquesne's first 11 games include a road game at crosstown Pitt, and home games against St. Fra

Exhibition loss to Wayne. Arguably you could say it doesn't matter since it was exhibition and we toyed with our lineups and spread out the minutes. BUT, its still a L to a cross town, D2 team, on the home court where we should've won on talent differential alone.
Regular season opening loss to Va Tech. Losing was expected, it was a road game against a decent ACC school. Getting routed was less than ideal follow up to the Wayne loss.
Week 1 Grade: D. NOT an ideal way to kick things off all around for the fans (including prospective fans), for the players, for anyone at all.
Week 2 preview: we have UMD tonight and that's got to be a confidence restoring win. We need team work, hustle, hard work, players playing as a unit. Get some good habits established. This weekend kicks of the Wounded Warriors games, hoping for a 1-1 split headed into next week's game with SLU.

Horizon:
Northern Kentucky 93, Wilmington 65. The D-III Quakers quaked before the fierce Norse of Northern. Drew McDonald (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Jeff Garrett (13/15) had double-doubles for the Norse (2-0).
Non-Conference Opponents:
Eastern Michigan 97, UM-Dearborn 73. UM-D hung around for a while, but a 20-5 EMU (2-0) run early in the second half finally opened some room between them and the Little Wolverines. Elijah Minnie had 27 points and James Thompson a second double-double to start the season.
Virginia Tech 132, Citadel 93. Well, we finished 7 points closer to Tech than the Bulldogs did.
Seattle 121, Puget Sound 70. Puget Sound is a D-III team. Richard Gitten led Seattle (1-1) with 26.
Fort Wayne 114, Defiance 59. Fort Wayne rolled past D-II Defiance behind 21 points from Bryce Scott.
Other Games:
#3 Arizona 103, Maryland-Baltimore County 78.
#5 Kentucky 73, Vermont 69. A lot of people are looking at Vermont as one of the top mid-majors in the country this year, and they gave Kentucky a decent game today. The Wildcats used a 12-4 run over the last five minutes of the first half to open a 12 point lead at the break, which they extended to 14 several times early in the second half. The Catamounts didn't fold, however, and closed to within three with 1:45 to play. Kentucky (2-0) held them scoreless the rest of the way to win. PJ Washington had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats. Skyler Nash, who took an official visit to Livernois and 6 before signing with Vermont, debuted with 3 points in 6 minutes of play.

#13 Miami 89, Navy 55.
#16 Louisville 72, George Mason 61. George Mason led for much of the first half and the first 10 minutes of the second, before a 12-0 Louisville run put the Cardinals up for good. Still, Mason was within 4 at the two minute mark, and it was only due to Louisville's 10-10 from the foul line in those final two minutes that the score looks a little lopsided. Flint junior Jaire Grayer had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Mason.
#20 Purdue 111, Chicago State 42. Purdue squeaks by.
#23 Seton Hall 75, Monmouth 65.
Butler 85, Princeton 75.
Mercer 110, Toccoa Falls 43. For some reason, the last bit of yesterday's scoreboard didn't originally publish. Anyway, I've updated that report, so if you missed the report on yesterday's Appalachian State-Toccoa Falls game, scroll back up and check it out. Or don't--I'll tell you: ASU won by 101 points. Not scored 101. Won by 101. Toccoa Falls has now surrendered 587 points in an 0-5 start. This is a team we need to schedule.
LeTourneau 99, Northwestern State 84. D-III LeTourneau beat a D-I team. At least we haven't lost to a D-III team, yet.
Mid-Major Win of the Day: Harvard 70, Massachusetts 67. As good as Harvard has been in recent years, this isn't really an upset, but it's a nice win for the Crimson. Sophomore Bryce Aiken, a guy the Titans offered early under Ray but probably never had much shot at, scored 30 for Harvard. "O'er the stands of flaming Crimson, Harvard banners fly. Cheer on cheer like volleyed thunder Echo to the sky."

That's true, but Jordan took the head coach job at Butler in the off season. Milwaukee hired an assistant coach from Northwestern to take his place.
