That’s ten scholarships.

According to Rogo, we also have a 7-1 grad transfer and a 6-11 freshman.

I wonder if Vijay Blackmon who visited caps a few weeks ago is still on our radar?

Blackmon is returning to Indiana, although prior to deciding to return, "He had a notable workout with former Indiana head coach Mike Davis at his current school Detroit-Mercy."

He redshirted a year at Fairfield, and played Juco this past season. Should have 3 years to play. Stats were minimal this season

Before Fairfield:

Alonde Legrand joined the Fairfield University men’s basketball program after spending the prior season at Berkshire Academy in Massachusetts. He was the team’s leading scorer at Berkshire in 2016-17. He was among the team’s top shooters, especially from the outside, and represented the team’s top three-point shooting threat. The guard also gained experience with Riverside Hawks and Harlem United.

rogobob - does today count as about 2 weeks? Trying to tie things back to your confab with the assistant coach after the Titan Club Appreciation dinner. ;)

Here is what State Fair said about him when he signed there:

Legrand is a 6'6'' guard/forward who spent last season as a redshirt at Division I Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. "Alonde is tall and a skilled passer," said (Coach Matt) Brown. "He shoots the ball well from the perimeter, so he has to be guarded. He also has a great basketball IQ. He understands how to play team basketball, and we are excited for him to join the team. Alonde is a good student who fits in with the type of student-athletes we want at SFCC."
Legrand played high school basketball at Berkshire Academy in Sheffield, Massachusetts … As a senior at Berkshire, Legrand averaged 17 points per game. He also recorded six rebounds and four assists per game. Legrand led his team in scoring both his junior and senior seasons and finished second in scoring as a sophomore.

He now is listed at 6-foot-7, nice size for a guard.

Is this legit? Or are you pulling another "Tony Paul"?

Just joking. But maybe the coaching staff should call him and see if he’s interested? ;)

I'm encouraged by the additions to our roster via the 2019 recruiting class. :)

I believe that BJ Maxwell, Dwayne Rose Jr., and Justin Miller have the talent and experience to make an immediate impact. And, Alonde LeGrand certainly brings an interesting skill set to our squad.

From the Detroit Free Press:

“John Calipari's son, Derrick Rose's nephew headed to Detroit Mercy basketball”

Coach Davis is known for recruiting players who feel they have a lot to prove; and, for getting most of those players to excel. Calipari, Rose, and the other recruits with less familiar names will all have a great chance to step up their games.

As a grad transfer with a lot to prove, Maxwell could turn out to be a very under the radar addition. Last year, the KenPom service ranked him with the 11th best offense efficiency rating in the nation meaning that he scored or assisted his team in scoring 129.8 points for every 100 possessions on offense in which he played. He made 43.8% of his 3-point shot attempts. He had a low turnover rate. For a point of reference, his steal rating was 2.9 compared to Josh McFolley's 3.0. At about 6'4", he gives us a lot of possibilities when he plays.

Similarly, Sam Hofman comes in with a lot of high level playing experience in Europe on the Belgian national U19 and U17 teams. He is another 40%+ 3 point shooter. We've talked about Justin Miller already. A big who shoots the 3 and who can rebound (maybe he has to sit a year; maybe not.) Although Rose and Calipari come in with high name recognition, they will have to compete hard and earn playing time. Because our returning players are not exactly duds either. Isiani and Moore can shoot the 3. Brandon can be a defensive and rebounding stalwart. Curry showed some flashes. Boe has a tremendous upside due to his athleticism once the game slows down for him. And there is this walk-on Davis kid. I think he is a shooter, too. ;)

As noted above, a lot depends upon if we can get a big player or two in here who can play this season. Regardless, we will be an even more competitive team than last year's.

We seem to get a lot of "under the radar" recruits. I hope these guys pan out at a high rate. Sucked seeing that Lamar transferred. Hoping coach is a master at finding diamonds in the rough.

Verbal Commits shows Drake Jeffries as a JUCO transfer. Is this accurate?

Don’t think so. Jeffries been at Minot St., an NAIA school currently transitioning to D-2. Verbal Commits shows an offer from Detroit. He’s 6-5, averaged 6.3 ppg, 4.3 ppg, perhaps a walk-on prospect?

I believe Jeffries was offered for 2020. He's already transferred to and on the roster of Indian Hills CC, a JUCO, for this upcoming season
