Titans vs. UIC (February 27)

Postby Rogobob77 » Thu Feb 27, 2020 1:05 pm

Lost in all the commotion of the APR ban related fiasco, the Titans have a game tonight in the Windy City of Chicago. UIC favored by 6.5 points and the matchup predictor gives a 24.7% chance of Detroit Mercy coming up with a road victory. I wonder if the players on the team knew their post-season fate all along, or perhaps they were kept in the dark too. In any event, the team deserves our support and hope they can close out the season ending road trip on a high note. Here’s the link to the DetroitTitans.com game preview story:

After watching the game and reading that their appeal was denied it is a good thing they are not going to play in the HL tournament.
This team is not a Division I team, I doubt that they could win a Division III or NAIA tournament game.
This coaching staff came in with talk on how they are going to turn things around. Well they have, the team has gone down
father than when coach Davis came in. Is the problem that the staff can't get the talent to understand their game philosophy they need to play.
Is it that the team is not intelligent to understand and execute they have the game plan.
I say it is all above. This team must show vast improvement next year or heads should roll.
That includes players, coaching staff and the AD. This mediocracy must stop, we were at a onetime place where players wanted to come and play and win.
We have not seen that in almost 20 years. No wonder there are more empty seats then they are people in the stands.
Coach Davis was hired because he was supposed to turn things around in a short time frame as he did in the past. Is UD to big of a
challenge for him. Next year will be the test.

A coach doesn't turn a program around in two seasons. A coach who inherits a team with three returning lettermen doesn't turn a team around in two seasons. The cupboard was bare when Davis came in, and he inherited a program with an APR that cost him recruits this season.

Tell us, Cedar, what you would have done in that situation? How would you have turned the team around?

BTW, did you notice the crowd at UIC on Thursday. Those stands were pretty empty. Do they need to fire their coach and AD?

And tell us, what exactly is "mediocracy"?

The only person that I've heard state that the program would be turned around in less than 2 years was Coach Davis. I believe he had it pegged at 3 months or something like that.

udballer you raise a fair question, however, we have to remain flexible and sometimes we have to change plans at midstream. The APR issue has caused such a change to Coach Davis' plans. It has hurt recruiting.

What I mean when I say "mediocracy" is when you come out of a time out and can't
run the play as design and have the coach yell move because the players are standing around not moving
How about not defending lines when coming down the court after scoring.
These are a couple of mediocracies. I could go on but I won't.
These are basics that they should have learned years ago.
They play with no hart, no drive. Not all the players but most except for a couple

I agree; 2020-21 is the 'acid test'.

My expectation is to win at least 50% of the non conference games and finish no lower than 4th place in the Horizon League.
