Nice story from DetroitTitans.com recounting the three-game winning streak the Titans had versus Tom Izzo’s MSU teams way back when. There is a video inserted in there showing the end of the triple overtime victory at Cobo, definitely worth watching. I was at that classic battle, but had no specific recollection of the buzzer beating basket that settled the match:

Tony Paul also has a nice story in the Detroit News about that three-game win streak Watson had over Izzo. It recaps the games, but also discusses why MSU and U-M are reluctant to schedule instate mid-majors like Detroit Mercy and Oakland. It’s behind the paywall but worth checking out if you have access. To underscore the obvious; this is a tough opening game for UDM. In addition to have talent, experience, and depth; the Spartans have played three games. For the game to be competitive, I believe we need to have a truly outstanding performance on defense and limit the turnovers when we have the basketball.

Very true, Dave. Everything appears to point to a bad time for the Titans to open: The Spartans; Covid delaying the season for us; first game with a new lineup. They look so far. The trick is to keep it going in the 2nd half. Play good D, low turnovers, and getting the 3 point game going. 1 for 11 is not a good stat but we're still in the game. If Antoine can get it going, it would be a huge boost to our chances.

On another note, Fraser had 6 boards and looked good.

Total BS going on with the officiating. The Titans played well but we were screwed by the officials. This was a winnable game.

I hope a bunch of Spartys lost a lot of money betting that line. Yes, I'm a sourpuss. I don't care. We look to have a good team this year, though. I appreciate Coach Davis' self-control. I would have been out of my mind...more so than usual.
