New Recruit - Jordan Phillips

Postby ptctitan » Sun May 02, 2021 6:36 pm

6'7" 220 lbs. forward transferring from UT-Arlington.

Phillips was a 3-star recruit out of high school in Texas. He signed as a freshman with Arkansas and played 7 games in the 2018-19 season. At the end of that season, Arkansas fired his head coach, Mike Anderson. (Aside - our Coach Mike Davis succeeded Mike Anderson as HC at UAB when Anderson left to take the Missouri job.)

Phillips played 2 years at UT-Arlington. Last month, his head coach there suddenly accepted an assistant's job Texas under its new head coach Chris Beard. So, Phillips will qualify for another waiver. He will not qualify for the one-time transfer exception because he already received a waiver to play immediately at UT-Arlington. He was a 38% 3-point shooter. Averaged 7.4 ppg and 2.7 rpg last season. As a soph, he averaged 6.3 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Averaged about 20 minutes per game each season.

It may turn out that Max Curran is the 'big guy that can bang down low'. As referenced under another topic .... our assistant coach Mark Montgomery likes this player because he is a solid, hard working blue collar guy.
